Position This is a Peace Officer position subject to P.O.S.T. requirements. The incumbent will conduct highly confidential and complex criminal investigations pertaining to internal security, employee misconduct, document integrity, public funds, burglary of offices, tampering with official records and systems, and other special cases of a criminal nature. Responsibilities include partnering as a DMV law enforcement representative in multi‑agency criminal investigations, providing direct investigative testimony, witness testimony, advisory services to state and federal courts, and performing all duties consistent with the California Penal Code Section 830.3 such as arrests, issuing citations, and serving search warrants. Qualifications Minimum qualifications are detailed in the Class Specification (INVESTIGATOR). Must meet California State civil service examination requirements for the role. Must be eligible for appointment (e.g., pass examination, authorize work in the U.S., no visa sponsorship). Valid California Driver’s License required; provide license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements. Background investigation, medical clearance, psychological evaluation, and substance testing clearances required prior to hire. Selected candidate must participate in the DMV Pull Notice Program. Responsibilities Conduct internal criminal investigations and provide investigative testimony. Partner with DMV, Department of Justice, FBI, DHS, and other agencies on investigations. Perform arrest, citation issuance, and warrant execution duties. Assist in investigations of fraud, theft, and other financial crimes involving DMV records. Participate in assigned duties per duty statement. Special Requirements Valid California Drivers License (CDL). Background Investigation clearance before hire. Medical and psychological clearance before hire. Participation in substance testing and DMV Pull Notice Program required.
