Enhanced Residential Direct Support Professional Team Lead

To be a Residential Direct Support Professional Team Lead, you must maintain the role of an exceptional Residential Direct Support Professional. Being a Team Lead takes the skills of a dedicated DSP and much more. Team leads hold themselves to a higher standard while modeling to others how to provide quality services to the Individuals we serve while maintaining a positive and professional approach. This position involves supporting individuals with significant behavioral support needs, which may include episodes of verbal or physical aggression, destructive behaviors, or other behaviors requiring individualized intervention strategies. Employees must be willing to complete specialized training and consistently implement approved behavior support plans while maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment.

Besides continuing to fulfil the expectations for being an outstanding DSP, the following professional skills and job responsibilities related to the

Residential Team Lead position.

• Scheduling medical appointments, adding them to calendar, tracking, reminding, and following up with aftercare instructions and additional appointments.
• Assisting with the Scheduling of the team you lead and assisting in needed shift coverage.
• Being on call to their team during emergencies and or weekends.
• Ensuring documentation of activities, shift duty sheets, daily summaries etc, are being completed per MAS policy and ODP standards.
• Provide guidance and encouragement to team members to ensure required tasks are completed.
• Keeping inventory of household supplies/ needed items (may be different depending on the team you are assigned). Reporting out a needs list bi-weekly to maintain needed supplies and to decrease the instances of running out of supplies.
• Being an active participant during monthly meetings for DSP Team Leads, and any other required training/meetings.
• Able to follow verbal and written directions, as well as using other systems to implement required outcomes.
• Communicating written and verbal with leadership, natural supports, supports coordinator etc.
• Originating activities, coordinating social gatherings, and aiding opportunities for individuals and staff to participate in positive experiences in the home and in the community.
• Prioritizing professional development by seeking out and participating in opportunities to improve skills, earn certificates of completion, and gain experience to better service our individuals. While expanding your own understanding of your position and MAS vision.
• Assist individuals in the development of appropriate life skills necessary to reach their highest level of potential including interaction with others, cooking, housekeeping, money management, personal hygiene, etc.
• Support the individuals' preferences and ensure their interests are honored.
• Using creative thinking for accommodations to help people with disabilities be more independent.
• Completion of daily documentation including goals worked on how, data documentation of behavior, environment, and stimuli.
• Providing caregiving and support with activities of daily living, may include:
  • Medication administration hygiene, cleaning, shopping, driving, prompting, documentation, budgeting, reporting, use of technology, mobility assistance, wound care.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Residential Direct Support Professionals demonstrate a variety of professional skills and qualifications, which can include: Attention to detail, especially when adhering to specific protocols and rules while carefully following instructions to care for the needs of the client.
• Integrity to ensure clients feel safe and comfortable when tending to personal activities such as helping them bathe, budgeting, cleaning, driving, and modeling.
• Trustworthiness and dependability so clients and their families feel comfortable relying on them
• Interpersonal skills when working with clients, including compassion and being sensitive to their emotional needs when they are in extreme distress or pain. Having patience and appropriate self-regulation. Enhanced de-escalation and critical thinking skills, and creative problem solving.
• Ability to take directions and use communication skills to accurately and professionally document/communication interactions, concerns, incidents, and completion of tasks/assignments/trainings.
• Attending necessary monthly and regulatory/required training in regard to client care needs and compliance.
• Submitting required annual and personal documentation as needed, per regulation to maintain compliance.
• Strong computer and technical skills (MS Word, Excel, and Outlook). Must have the ability to learn other computer software programs as required by assigned tasks. Knowledge of Therap, Relias, and ADP programs are helpful.

Additional Requirements

• At least 6 years with outstanding service as a DSP.
• 2 years of providing outstanding leadership as a supervisor in a residential setting
• Proficient in ODP 6400 Regulations. understanding the regulations of ODP and the Policy and procedures of MAS
• Proficiency in Excel and Therap documentation
• Organization and time management skills are a must.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Standard understanding of systems within ODP, spreadsheets, Outlook, ADP, Relias,
• Have and maintain consistent work performance, attendance, and flexibility.
• Completion and maintaining all required training within DSP position to ensure compliance.
• NADD or NADSP certification.
• All other requirements are also found with the DSP position.

Behavioral Support Expectations

This position may involve providing services to individuals with intensive behavioral, medical, or safety support needs. Staff must be able to implement individualized behavior support plans, utilize approved de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques, maintain appropriate supervision, and complete all required specialized training. The ability to respond calmly and professionally to challenging behaviors while ensuring the safety and dignity of all individuals is an essential function of this position.

Behavioral Support Requirements

• Ability to safely support individuals with complex behavioral and emotional needs.
• Willingness to complete and maintain competency in crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques, behavior support strategies, and other client-specific training as required.
• Ability to remain calm, professional, and consistent during behavioral incidents while following agency policies and individualized support plans.

Physical/Mental Demands

• Tolerate exposure to standard scents and chemicals such as laundry detergent, bleach, cleaning supplies, etc
• Ability to work with individuals that may need assistance to bear weight and assist individuals to an upright position
• Ability to perform CPR
• Participate in and receive certification in Ukeru Training

*Please note trainings are Paid at the rate of 16.00 an hour.
