We are looking for a Director of Global Literacy for an international school based in Shanghai. The school provides a supportive and well-resourced learning environment, with a focus on academic excellence, student development, and preparing learners for success in higher education and beyond.Job detailsAs the Director of Global Literacy, you will report to the Executive Principal through Academic Management and lead a growing team of specialist teachers. You will oversee the subject across all year levels and should be organised, energetic, innovative, and committed to the School School’s aims.Lead the development and delivery of Global Literacy across Grades 6–12, including international and compulsory Chinese curriculum pathways.Review curriculum needs, select appropriate courses, and develop clear schemes of work and departmental policies.Lead, support, and line-manage subject teachers through regular meetings, lesson observations, performance reviews, and professional development.Set departmental targets, monitor performance, evaluate outcomes, and maintain accurate academic documentation.Ensure consistently high standards of teaching, assessment, feedback, classroom management, and student progress.Teach up to 20 lessons per week and prepare students for internal and external examinations.Work with senior leadership, operations, and the timetabling team to coordinate staffing, classrooms, resources, and budgets.Support students applying for subject-related university programmes, competitions, and enrichment opportunities.Use assessment data and the school’s MIS effectively to monitor progress and improve teaching and learning.Serve as a student tutor when required, supporting academic progress, wellbeing, and communication with parents.Contribute actively to extracurricular activities, school events, admissions, marketing, and student recruitment initiatives.Ensure full compliance with safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, confidentiality, and school policies.QualificationsBachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant subject areaRecognized teaching qualification strongly preferredStrong subject knowledge and proven experience teaching students aged 11–18Experience with IGCSE, A-Level, or another recognised international curriculum is preferredPrevious departmental leadership, curriculum coordination, or team-management experienceAbility to support students whose first language is not EnglishSalary and benefits will be discussed during the interview process.
