Description:
The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver.
They assume responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame.
They provide care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial and human resources.
They work within the philosophy of the institution.

Essential Functions:
They perform all responsibilities and duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service.
They implement procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice.
They maintain up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided.
This ensures the integration of information for use by the healthcare team.
They complete initial assessments upon patient admission.
They develop appropriate plans of care in accordance with unit standards based on patient and family needs.
They implement the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures.
They modify the plan of care based upon continuous evaluation.
They take responsibility for patient and employee safety.
This includes reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents.
They communicate with others directly and privately when necessary to resolve issues.
They offer constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers.
They confer with colleagues to expand their knowledge base.
They identify their own learning needs.
They take initiative to begin appropriate solutions.
They fulfill all requirements of departmental competencies.


Department Specific Job Functions:
They assess IV sites every four hours.
They start new IVs per policy.
They maintain documentation standards, as evidenced by passed quarterly chart audits.
They must attend five out of six staff meetings per year.
They identify changes in patient status and respond appropriately.


Required Skills and Experience:
They possess basic computer knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and web browser.
They demonstrate multicultural sensitivity.
They utilize critical thinking skills using independent judgment in decision-making.
