Our 99,600 employees operate a network of 2,600 offices and laboratories, working together to enable a better, safer and more interconnected world.Job DescriptionThe Lab Machinist position is responsible for performing precision machining operations on material and test samples.Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.Machine parts to specifications using manual and/or CNC machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations.Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and project manager's information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances.Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.Maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.Prepare samples according to ASTM and ASME standards & customer requirements.Confer with project manager, supervisory, and manufacturing personnel in order to exchange technical information.Responsible for completion of task safety evaluations, near miss and hazard reporting as required.QualificationsEducation: a certified journeyperson, holding a valid recognized credential (or more than 5 years of practical experience in machining)Experience: 2 years experience minimumAdditional InformationSGS is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and as such we recruit, hire, train, and promote persons in all job classifications without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, genetics, status as a protected veteran, or any other characteristics protected by law.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodations.
