Advanced Packaging Engineer

The Advanced Packaging Engineer is responsible for conceptualizing, designing, developing, revising, coordinating, and implementing packaging structures for all products under the authority of STERIS St. Louis Operations. The products included are produced both internally on-site and externally by third party contract packagers. The Advanced Packaging Engineer identifies and proposes advanced packaging technologies to better satisfy internal and external customer needs.

• Design, develop, and implement effective, creative, cost appropriate packaging consistent with objectives across Marketing, Product Development, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Quality Systems, Engineering, and Purchasing.
• Ensure compliance with hazardous materials transportation, FDA, EPA, cGMP, and ISO requirements.
• Identify and implement packaging solutions for new products, cost reductions, process improvements, regulatory compliance, and complaint resolution.
• Identify and implement advanced packaging technologies.
• Implement process, system, and technology enhancements.
• Coordinate testing of new and revised packaging components.
• Develop component specifications and recommendations from test results.
• Ensure DOT, IATA, IMDG, and UN transport compliance.
• Implement qualifications and production testing as required.
• Maintain current knowledge in hazardous materials packaging design.
• Review and update Packaging Structures SOPs.
• Improve functional area processes and reporting.
• Develop reports and documentation.
• Mentor junior contributors.
• Achieve an injury free personal safety record.

Required

Must have a minimum of 5-8 years of experience with the following in a regulated industry (medical preferred):

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
• Minimum of 5-8 years of packaging engineering experience.
• Strong knowledge of packaging design principles, materials, manufacturing processes, and product development methodologies.
• Experience with engineering analysis tools.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects and solve complex engineering problems.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and project management skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and engineering documentation practices.

Preferred

• Experience in regulated industries, manufacturing, packaging equipment, automation, or product development.
• Knowledge of DFMEA, PFMEA, and risk assessment methodologies.
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.
• Project management experience of capital projects exceeding $500,000.
• Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA, Inventor, or similar platforms.
• New product design and packaging solutions experience.

Pay range for this opportunity is$107,525.00-$139,150.00.This position is eligible for bonus participation.

Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed. Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
