Wardrobe Supervisor , 2026-2027 National Tour The Acting Company seeks a touring Wardrobe Supervisor (Wardrobe Sup) for its 2026‑2027 National Tour. The Wardrobe Sup will serve as the department head for wardrobe, joining the production during its design and rehearsal process in NYC, and overseeing costume maintenance, preshow, and post‑show needs while on the road. The position reports to the Associate Producer. Company Information & Tour Overview The Acting Company ( is a fifty‑four‑year‑old theatre company dedicated to developing artists and audiences through national repertory tours. This season’s tour will be a production of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (directed by Devin Brain, Producing Artistic Director). The tour will rehearse in NYC in January, tech at a venue in early February 2027, and then tour nationally from February to April 2027 in a wide variety of theatrical venues. Travel is primarily on a coach bus, and the day span is usually long, with load‑in, performance, and strike often occurring on the same day. Responsibilities Pre‑Tour Manage design in pre‑production process, advising on and resolving issues of scale, budget, scheduling, design, tour‑ability, and communication alongside Associate Producer and Costume Design team Support any costume needs for the rehearsal process Prep, restock, and maintain wardrobe tour kits, including hair and make‑up products Participate in advance process with venues, communicating complete and accurate information about dressing room, dresser, and laundry needs Participate via company‑provided credit card and keep track of departmental spending (receipt submission, budget tracking) throughout tour process Lead costume load‑in, notes, and load‑out during tech Tour Prepare for and oversee wardrobe load‑in and strike at each tour venue, maintaining safety, efficiency, and design implementation within each venue’s idiosyncrasies Supervise local crew with all maintenance and cleaning of costumes; duties include laundry, preset, spraying and deodorizing, steaming and pressing, basic repairs, wig maintenance, and dressing room setup Assist with truck load and unload at each venue, under the direction of Scenic Supervisor Adapt costume, wig, and make‑up needs to the available resources while on the road Run a performance track as needed, including serving as A2 backstage for any issues with mic’d actors (training provided as needed) Supervise actor maintenance of hair and make‑up; coordinate actor hair appointments; restock make‑up and styling products Facilitate and participate in any additional rehearsals needed on the road, in coordination with Stage Management, Company Management, Staff Director, and Home Office Train and be trained across departments, to ensure crew technician coverage Post‑Tour Ensure that all costumes and wardrobe items are fully repaired, maintained, cleaned, returned (if rented or borrowed), and packed for storage Update all paperwork for archival purposes Qualifications At least 5 years of experience in wardrobe and/or dresser positions, or equivalent experience Knowledge of basic hand stitching and sewing machines Able to lift up to 50 lbs, push/pull 100 lbs, stand for extended periods of time (3+ hours), and navigate multiple levels of stairs Experience with hair and make‑up for diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds Experience with basic wig maintenance is a plus Soft skills: strong communication skills, written & verbal; strong interpersonal skills; experience working with early career professionals; experience working with communities of all kinds Other departmental experience is a plus OSHA training is a plus First aid training is a plus Previous experience with theatrical touring or travel is a plus Previous experience working in schools (or other educational settings) is a plus A valid US driver’s license is a plus Must be local to the NYC area. Housing & Per Diem provided during tour (when not in NYC) Production Timeline & Fees August – December 2026: Pre‑Production / Tour Advance Wardrobe Sup works hourly (~10‑20 hrs /week), as needed for design process and tour advance. Remote work possible, hours flexible. $27 /hour. January 2027: Rehearsal Support / Tour Advance / Tech Wardrobe Sup works hourly (~10‑20 hrs /week) , as needed for initial rehearsal setup, company introductions, HR training, rehearsal support, production and design meetings, and tour advance. $27 /hour. February – April 2027: National Tour Wardrobe Sup works full‑time on the road. $1,275 /week. April 2027: Post‑tour Wardrobe Sup works hourly as needed to unpack truck, return rentals, clean up kit, etc. (40 hours max). $27 /hour.
