Make a difference supporting students as a dedicated 1:1 American Sign Language (ASL) aide in a dynamic school setting near New York, NY. This contract role is ideal for those skilled in both educational support and sign language, eager to contribute meaningfully to the classroom experience.

Key Qualifications:

• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Previous experience as a paraprofessional, 1:1 aide, or ASL interpreter preferred
• Ability to collaborate well with teachers, students, and staff
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Understanding of the needs of Deaf or hard of hearing students
• Patience, flexibility, and a passion for supporting individual learning goals

Core Responsibilities:

• Provide direct, individualized assistance to a student who uses ASL as their primary language
• Facilitate clear communication between the student, peers, and instructional staff
• Support instructional activities as directed by classroom teachers
• Foster the student’s participation and engagement in the school environment
• Encourage student independence while assisting with both academic and social development
• Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism at all times
