This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Payroll & Benefits Specialist based in United States.
This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of end-to-end payroll accuracy and benefits administration across multiple international jurisdictions, including the US, Canada, and the UK. You will operate in a fast-paced, high-growth environment where precision and compliance directly impact employee experience and operational trust. The role plays a critical part in ensuring seamless payroll operations across complex regulatory frameworks, including California wage and hour laws, Canadian federal and provincial requirements, and UK PAYE systems. You will be the key point of contact for payroll and benefits inquiries, supporting employees through their full lifecycle, including onboarding and acquisitions. Working cross-functionally with HR, Finance, and external vendors, you will help ensure scalable and compliant people operations. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in detail-driven environments and values both structure and continuous improvement.
Accountabilities:
- Manage end-to-end payroll processing across the US (including California), Canada, and the UK, ensuring accuracy across wages, bonuses, deductions, and time-off adjustments.
- Prepare, review, and approve weekly and semi-monthly payroll cycles while ensuring compliance with local regulations and deadlines.
- Maintain payroll integrity through regular audits, reconciliations, and validation of tax withholdings, benefit deductions, and payroll journal entries.
- Ensure compliance with jurisdiction-specific requirements including California wage and hour laws, Canadian CPP/EI obligations, and UK PAYE and National Insurance regulations.
- Support year-end reporting and filings such as W-2s, T4s, P60s, and other statutory documentation.
- Administer employee benefits programs across multiple countries, including health, retirement, insurance, and statutory leave entitlements.
- Serve as a primary contact for employee payroll and benefits inquiries, ensuring timely and accurate resolution.
- Collaborate with HR, finance, and external vendors to support onboarding, acquisitions, and system integrations.
- Develop and maintain payroll and benefits SOPs while contributing to ongoing process improvement and automation initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Accounting, or a related field.
- 2+ years of payroll and benefits experience, including exposure to hourly and non-exempt employee populations.
- Hands-on experience with California payroll compliance, including wage and hour laws, meal/rest breaks, and final pay requirements.
- Experience processing Canadian payroll (CPP, EI, and provincial tax systems).
- Experience with UK payroll operations (PAYE, National Insurance, HMRC requirements).
- Familiarity with HRIS/payroll systems such as Workday, ADP, or similar platforms.
- Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
- High attention to detail with strong organizational and reconciliation abilities.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to support employees across multiple countries and functions.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
- Comfort working in evolving processes within a scaling organization.
- Payroll certification (FPC, CPP, or UK equivalent) and acquisition/M&A payroll experience are a plus.
