Job Summary

We are seeking an entry-level to intermediate technician with strong mechanical aptitude who is interested in developing skills in CNC machine tools, FANUC controls, servo and spindle systems, industrial electrical systems, and precision mechanical equipment .

This hands-on role involves the electrical, mechanical, and controls modernization of legacy CNC machine tools. The technician will work alongside senior technicians to build, install, wire, commission, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain CNC machines and automation equipment .

The position includes both shop-based retrofit work and travel to customer locations throughout the Tristate area and, when required, across the United States.

Key ResponsibilitiesCNC Machine Tool Service & Retrofit

• Assist with CNC machine installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance.

• Support complete CNC retrofit projects, including disassembly, electrical installation, mechanical modifications, wiring, controls installation, testing, and commissioning.

• Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and controls-related issues.

• Assist with machine startup, axis testing, servo tuning, limit switch verification, spindle operation, tool changer operation, and safety circuit testing.

• Assist with machine alignment, leveling, mechanical adjustments, and geometry verification.

• Install and adjust motors, encoders, switches, sensors, ball screws, linear guides, couplings, belts, bearings, and tool changers.

• Perform preventative maintenance and corrective repairs.

• Use precision measuring tools to inspect components and verify machine condition.

Electrical Panel Building & Controls

• Install and mount FANUC CNC components, servo amplifiers, spindle drives, power supplies, transformers, circuit protection, terminal blocks, and other control components.

• Cut, strip, crimp, label, and route electrical wiring.

• Wire I/O, limit switches, proximity sensors, encoders, operator controls, relays, contactors, and safety circuits.

• Fabricate and modify electrical enclosures using hand and power tools.

• Install conduit, cable glands, connectors, cooling equipment, and related enclosure hardware.

• Perform point-to-point continuity checks and electrical testing using digital multimeters.

• Assist with troubleshooting CNC controls, PLC I/O, servo systems, spindle drives, power supplies, sensors, and safety circuits.

Mechanical Machine-Tool Work

• Perform mechanical disassembly and reassembly of CNC machines.

• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, assembly drawings, manuals, and parts documentation.

• Install and adjust motors, gearboxes, couplings, bearings, belts, pulleys, linear motion components, covers, and guards.

• Perform drilling, tapping, grinding, fitting, and basic machining/fabrication work as needed.

• Inspect mechanical assemblies for wear, damage, alignment, lubrication, and proper installation.

• Use torque wrenches and precision hand tools for machine assembly.

• Assist senior technicians with machine alignment and geometric checks.

RequirementsExperience

• Industrial electrical, machine maintenance, CNC service, electrical panel building, industrial automation, mechanical maintenance, or related technical experience is preferred.

• Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience are highly valued.

• CNC machine, FANUC controls, industrial automation, servo systems, or machine-tool retrofit experience is a plus.

• Entry-level candidates with the right mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.

Technical Skills

• Basic understanding of industrial electrical components such as motors, transformers, relays, contactors, circuit breakers, power supplies, sensors, PLCs, servo drives, and spindle drives.

• Ability or willingness to learn electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and machine manuals.

• Basic understanding of bearings, belts, couplings, ball screws, gearboxes, linear motion systems, and lubrication systems.

• Strong logical and methodical troubleshooting ability.

• CNC machine operation or maintenance experience is preferred but not required.

• Willingness to learn FANUC CNC controls, servo systems, spindle systems, and machine-tool technology.

Tools & Equipment

• Comfortable using hand and power tools such as wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, drills, taps, wire strippers, crimpers, and torque wrenches.

• Comfortable using digital multimeters and electrical test equipment.

• Willingness to learn precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and levels.

Travel

• Travel to customer locations for installations, retrofits, commissioning, troubleshooting, and service is required.

• Primary service area is the Tristate region, with customers throughout the United States.

• Overnight and extended travel may occasionally be required.

Education

• Associate degree, technical certificate, or formal training in Industrial Automation, Electrical Systems, Mechatronics, Machine Tool Technology, CNC Technology, Industrial Maintenance , or a related field is preferred.

• Equivalent hands-on industrial experience may be considered in place of formal education.

• Entry-level technicians and trainees with strong mechanical aptitude are encouraged to apply.

Physical Requirements

• Good manual dexterity for electrical wiring and mechanical assembly.

• Ability to lift and move components and tools weighing up to 50 lbs.

• Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work in various positions for extended periods.

• Ability to work safely around machinery, electrical equipment, and industrial environments.

• Ability to work in both shop and customer-site environments.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver with strong mechanical aptitude who is interested in learning CNC, electrical, and controls technology.

The candidate does not need to know everything on day one. The key is having the ability and willingness to learn. Training and industry education will be provided to help the technician develop expertise in CNC machine tools, FANUC controls, electrical systems, servo/spindle systems, and machine-tool retrofits .
