This position operates entirely remotely, allowing you to work from any location within South Africa. You will be responsible for ensuring that all freight operations comply with international trade laws, customs regulations, and industry-specific standards. Key Responsibilities Ensure all international and domestic freight shipments comply with relevant customs, trade, and transportation regulations. Review and verify shipping documentation, including bills of lading, commercial invoices, and certificates of origin. Monitor changes in customs laws, trade policies, and international agreements and assess their impact on company operations. Develop and implement compliance procedures and internal controls to minimize risks and ensure adherence to regulations. Provide guidance and training to operational teams on compliance matters. Manage and respond to inquiries from customs authorities and other regulatory bodies. Conduct internal audits and risk assessments to identify potential compliance gaps. Assist in the resolution of customs-related issues, delays, or detentions. Maintain accurate and organized records of all compliance-related activities and documentation. Stay informed about geopolitical events and trade sanctions that may affect freight movement. Requirements Proven experience as a Freight Compliance Specialist, Customs Broker, or in a related international trade role. In-depth knowledge of import/export regulations, customs procedures, and international trade laws. Strong understanding of various trade agreements and their implications. Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills. Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing documentation. Proficiency in using customs software and relevant trade compliance tools. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex regulations clearly. Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet strict deadlines in a remote environment. Relevant professional certifications (e.g., Certified Customs Specialist) are highly desirable. Bachelor's degree in International Trade, Law, Business, or a related field is preferred.
