Senior Accountant

HAC, Inc., an employee-owned grocery retail organization, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Accountant to lead key accounting functions and ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting.This role is responsible for owning complex accounting areas, leading the month-end close process, and serving as a strategic partner to operations and cross-functional teams. The Senior Accountant will drive process improvements, strengthen internal controls, and provide financial insight across a multi-location retail environment.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesFinancial Close & General Ledger LeadershipLead and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processesPrepare, review, and approve journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliationsEnsure all financial reporting is accurate and compliant with GAAPReview staff-level work for accuracy, completeness, and timelinessIdentify and resolve discrepancies proactivelyAccount Reconciliations & OversightOversee and ensure completion of all balance sheet reconciliations, including:Bank reconciliationsAccounts payable and receivableInventory and accrual accountsInvestigate and resolve complex reconciling itemsEstablish and enforce reconciliation standards and deadlinesInventory, Fixed Assets & Retail AccountingLead inventory accounting processes, including shrink, adjustments, and valuationOversee calculation and reconciliation of inventory balances across store locationsManage fixed assets and Construction-in-Progress (CIP), including:Capitalization policiesDepreciationAsset tracking and system reconciliationPartner with operations to ensure accurate financial representation of store activityPayroll, Vendor & Contractual AccountingOversee payroll accounting in partnership with HR and TreasuryReview payroll journal entries and reconciliationsManage accruals and reconciliations related to:Vendor paymentsLandlord agreementsRebates and receivablesEnsure contractual obligations are accurately reflected in financialsFinancial Analysis & Business PartnershipPerform variance analysis and provide insights to leadershipSupport budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processesPartner with store leadership and operations teams to improve financial performancePrepare ad hoc financial reports and analysisAudit, Compliance & Internal ControlsServe as a primary liaison for external auditorsEnsure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirementsStrengthen internal controls and identify areas of riskLead documentation and process standardization effortsProcess Improvement & LeadershipIdentify opportunities to automate and streamline accounting processesLead initiatives to transition from manual to automated systemsDevelop and implement best practices across accounting functionsMentor and support staff accountants and junior team membersProvide recommendations to leadership on financial strategy and controlsRequiredBachelor’s degree in Accounting4–7+ years of progressive accounting experienceStrong knowledge of GAAPAdvanced Excel skills (complex formulas, data analysis; macros preferred)Experience leading month-end close and reconciliationsPreferredCPA or CPA-eligibleExperience in grocery, retail, or multi-unit operationsExperience with inventory and fixed asset accountingERP system experienceKey CompetenciesStrong analytical and critical thinking skillsHigh attention to detail and accuracyAbility to lead processes and influence outcomesEffective communication across all levels of the organizationStrong organizational and time management skillsContinuous improvement mindsetWork Environment / Physical DemandsConstantly operates a computer and standard office equipmentAbility to sit for extended periodsOccasionally lifts items 10–25 lbsMinimal travel may be required for store visits or audits #J-18808-Ljbffr Homeland-Stores
