Controller of Operating Properties

The Controller – Operating Properties is a strategic and hands‑on finance leader responsible for overseeing accounting operations across hospitality and commercial property portfolios. This role partners closely with operations, leasing, and executive leadership to deliver accurate financial reporting, strengthen internal controls, and drive performance through data-informed decision‑making. The Controller also plays a key role in developing talent, optimizing processes, and supporting long‑term business strategy. Key Responsibilities Strategic Planning & Decision Support Oversee Hospitality and Commercial Property accounting teams to ensure accurate, timely financial reporting and analysis. Partner with operations, sales, and leasing teams to implement effective processes and policies that improve operating performance. Provide financial insight and guidance to support strategic decision‑making and enhance competitive positioning. Identify risks and implement controls to safeguard assets and strengthen business operations. Leadership & Team Development Lead, mentor, and develop accounting teams with a focus on performance, accountability, and continuous improvement. Communicate clear goals and expectations; provide ongoing coaching and professional development. Foster a culture of integrity, collaboration, and accountability. Oversee recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and training to build and retain a high‑performing team. Ensure team members have strong technical knowledge across key accounting areas, including fixed assets, debt, lease accounting, and financial instruments. Financial Operations & Reporting Support property‑level strategy through financial planning, budgeting, and analysis. Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial reports and adherence to reporting deadlines. Oversee and continuously improve accounting operations including AP, AR, collections, treasury, and monthly close processes Monitor compliance with internal policies, procedures, and applicable accounting standards; recommend and implement improvements. Process Improvement & Project Management Develop and enhance financial reports, dashboards, and presentations for internal stakeholders. Lead or support implementation of new systems, technologies, and process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy. Manage special projects and initiatives related to operating properties and corporate objectives. Stakeholder Engagement Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to understand and respond to business needs. Serve as a trusted advisor to the Corporate Controller, General Managers, and executive leadership on financial and operational matters. Communicate key financial insights through regular reporting, meetings, and ad hoc analysis. Qualifications CPA designation or active CPA candidacy strongly preferred Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities Experience in Commercial and/or Hospitality Real Estate strongly preferred Proficiency in Sage 300 CRE (Timberline) preferred Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership abilities High level of professionalism, initiative, and attention to detail Positive, collaborative, and solutions‑oriented mindset About Koury Corporation Koury Corporation is an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace.
