Primary Location Texas-Austin Job Details Community and Social Service; Regular employee status; Grade 21; Monthly salary 7,175.00; 1 opening; Exempt overtime status. General Description Perform highly advanced psychological work within the agency’s Victim and Employee Support Services. The role includes providing comprehensive psychological services to employees and families; program design and implementation; diagnosing, counseling, training, crisis intervention; preparing reports and special projects. The fellowship is 12 months long and offers training in public safety psychology under a licensed psychologist. Essential Duties / Responsibilities Develop, update, and present training to increase wellness, resilience, and job effectiveness. Conduct research, assist in program design and implementation of wellness programs. Provide confidential counseling in a voluntary program for employees and their families; coordinate referrals. Facilitate support for personnel involved in critical incidents, line-of-duty injuries/deaths, and mass casualties. Develop training for internal clinicians on clinical interventions, best practices, and ethics. Assist in consultation on special projects requiring psychological expertise. Participate in field visits, observe training for law enforcement officers, and provide feedback to leadership. Assist in critical incident response and pre-employment evaluation processes. Travel locally and statewide as needed. Attend work regularly and observe approved work hours. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.), or Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Clinical or Counseling Psychology. Experience Completed internship in clinical or counseling psychology with documented training and supervised experience. Licensure and/or Certification Postdoctoral candidates must obtain a provisional license to practice under supervision in Texas before the fellowship begins. Regulatory Knowledge Working knowledge of TXDPS regulations, state and federal laws, policies, and procedures; familiarity with ADA requirements and pre-employment screening of law enforcement applicants. Clinical Knowledge Expertise in assessment and treatment of acute and traumatic stress reactions, crisis intervention, grief, victimology, emergency response, and appropriate screening instruments. Supervisory/Managerial/Leadership Skills Knowledge of management principles, performance standards, and fiscal/budget management; ability to develop plans, provide direction, promote teamwork, and support program objectives. Technology Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related software such as CAPPS and SharePoint. Interpersonal Skills Poise, tact, diplomacy, and the ability to build positive professional relationships. Demonstration of DPS core values: Integrity, Excellence, Accountability, Teamwork. Organizational and Prioritization Skills Organized, flexible, effective prioritization in a demanding environment; ability to meet multiple deadlines without sacrificing quality. Research and Comprehension Ability to access relevant information quickly and present research findings clearly. Analytical Reasoning/Attention to Detail Examine data, discern variations, identify trends, and solve problems accurately. Confidentiality and Protected Information Responsible handling of sensitive confidential information and adherence to applicable laws and policies. Safety Work safely at all times and comply with safety standards and best practices. Schedule and Travel Availability to travel locally and statewide; flexibility for extended hours and additional work may be required. Physical and Environmental Demands Office, outdoors, and vehicle environments. 10-pound weight transfer anticipated. Driving requirements: moderate frequency. Internal Employee Policy Current DPS employees must notify their supervisor in writing. Transfers within the same salary group without salary change. Salary adjustments: increase no more than 3.4% if changing title but staying within group.
