What is the San Antonio Council for International Visitors (SACIV, pronounced "SAY-seev") SACIV is a non-profit organization that plays a crucial role in the U.S. State Department’s international exchange programs. SACIV specializes in hosting short-term professional exchanges for emerging international leaders, primarily through the government’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). By hosting such leaders, SACIV helps advance American foreign policy objectives, combat foreign misinformation, and promote global understanding all while boosting San Antonio’s economic opportunities and promoting its international prestige. Each year, San Antonio welcomes hundreds of these distinguished visitors to engage with local professionals across various fields such as academia, journalism, government, military, science, entrepreneurship, etc. Their immersion in our culture includes spending time in the homes of SACIV members, sharing meals, and participating in special outings, offering them a personal and intimate glimpse of American life. For SACIV members, the program provides opportunities to meet, host, and forge lasting friendships with international visitors, helping to bridge cultural gaps. Ultimately, SACIV aims to cultivate international friendships, exchange ideas, promote U.S. values, deepen cultural understanding, and establish San Antonio as a center of international engagement. Position Overview The Program Coordinator will function as a Citizen Diplomat They will oversee the activities of other local Citizen Diplomats (volunteers) in supporting the IVLP. SACIV is looking for a candidate who is passionate about international affairs and the SACIV mission. The candidate will be the primary manager of the Visitor Program and assist the Executive Director with many other various tasks and special projects. The ideal candidate will be creative, articulate, and reliable, with strong communication/media and organizational skills. This role requires an immensely pro-active person who is tactful and confident, interested in international relations, and capable of working collaboratively and with minimal supervision. Duties & Responsibilities Report to the Executive Director Create and publish engaging/quality social media content Complete other special projects and admin duties tasks as assigned Conduct research for, and aid in the maintenance of, organizational databases Research local professional resources and create proposals for potential programs Accompany international visitors to professional appointments and cultural activities Craft bid proposals (grant writing) to Global Ties to receive and host international delegations Assist in editing, updating, and maintaining SACIV’s website and various social media outlets Coordinate complex schedules/itineraries for incoming groups of international visitors; this involves frequent phone calls, emailing, and personal networking/engagement. Ensure all program and event details, such as scheduling, agenda, venue coordination, materials, and guest lists, are handled efficiently. Assist with the planning, organization, and execution of programs and events. Support Executive Director with various aspects of operations, including membership outreach, public relations & communications efforts, and event planning Skills & Abilities Bachelor’s degree in international relations, foreign affairs, policy, or similar field preferred - Experience and/or career success in lieu of a degree is acceptable and will be considered Understanding of professional etiquette & competency in cross-cultural communications Ability to represent SACIV with dignity in public, with stakeholders, and during meetings Networking skills to build and maintain strong relationships with government agencies, local organizations, and international delegations Strong writing/speaking skills, including drafting proposals, reports, and presentations Enthusiastic and personable self-starter who demonstrates initiative and creativity Strong organization skills and ability to work multiple projects simultaneously Proficiency in protocol in cross-cultural relations and professional etiquette Excellent command of social media and public relations platforms Proven experience in program coordination or event planning Ability to work independently and under minimal supervision Strong time-management skills and problem-solving abilities Must know Microsoft Office and other related platforms Strong communication skills, both oral and written Masterful organizational and scheduling skills Attention to detail/instructions is critical The Program Coordinator will be exposed to the workings of a nonprofit; have access to a large network of global and local business, government, and academic leaders; and have the opportunity to contribute to US international relations by organizing the activities of local Citizen Diplomats. This position provides the incumbent with professional exposure to San Antonio leaders, corporations, universities, non-profit organizations, and familiarity with the U.S. State Department and its subsidiaries, and interaction with international visitors worldwide. Salary commensurate with experience within a range of $45,000-$49,000 annually with benefits. Salary increases and provided after 6 months for exceptional performance.
