Member of Technical Staff

At Lance, Members of Technical Staff are engineers who can own hard problems end to end. We don’t hire people into narrow boxes like frontend engineer, backend engineer, or AI engineer. The problems we’re solving cut across product, AI, infrastructure, systems, and the physical world. We want engineers who are comfortable going wherever the problem takes them. You might spend one week building an AI agent, the next designing the infrastructure behind it, and the next shipping a product used by hotel employees every day. Your responsibility is not a specific layer of the stack. Your responsibility is making the system work. What you'll do Build and own major products and technical systems from 0 → 1 Develop AI agents that can reason, take actions, and operate reliably in the real world Work across frontend, backend, infrastructure, models, data, and integrations Build agent harnesses, evals, context systems, and learning loops Design systems that coordinate humans and AI agents Integrate with legacy hotel systems and turn messy real-world workflows into reliable software Prototype new interfaces across voice, mobile, desktop, and hardware Deploy directly into hotels and learn from how the systems behave in production Debug problems across the entire stack Make foundational technical decisions that shape the future of Lance What we're looking for We care less about your title or years of experience and more about your ability to solve difficult problems. You’ll likely thrive here if you: Are an exceptional engineer with strong technical fundamentals Can move between product engineering and AI engineering Have built complex systems from scratch Are comfortable operating with very little structure Care deeply about reliability and product quality Can reason from first principles instead of reaching for the standard solution Want ownership over outcomes, not tickets Are excited by problems where the answer is not obvious How we work There is no clean boundary between AI engineering, product engineering, and infrastructure here. If an AI agent is failing, you might change the prompt, redesign the eval, modify the architecture, rebuild the workflow, or change the product itself. We expect engineers to understand the entire system well enough to make that call. At Lance, the best engineers don't just implement the future.
