SECURITY OFFICER
Spartan School of Aeronautics
Summary The Security Officer protects students, employees, visitors, and College property by maintaining a safe, secure, and orderly environment at the Spartan Student Housing and the Spartan Tulsa and RVS campuses. The position enforces all rules, regulations, and policies of the College; conducts foot and vehicle patrols; controls access to College facilities; responds to alarms, medical emergencies, and other incidents; de-escalates conflict; and documents all activity through accurate written reports. This is a uniformed, shift-based position reporting to the Manager of Campus Security. Availability for nights, weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, and mandatory overtime during emergencies, special events, or staffing shortages is required. Essential Job Functions
• Conduct foot and vehicle patrols of the Spartan Student Housing, Spartan main campus, parking areas, and adjacent College-owned property throughout the assigned shift, varying patrol routes and times
• Monitor and control access to College buildings and the Student Housing, including verifying identification, enforcing visitor and guest policies, and issuing, tracking, and retrieving keys and access credentials
• Secure and unlock buildings, classrooms, labs, shops, and gates according to established schedules; verify that doors, windows, and gates are secured and that lighting and life-safety equipment are in working order; and report deficiencies and maintenance hazards
• Receive, evaluate, and respond to alarm activations on Spartan-owned property, including intrusion, fire, and panic alarms; notify the Manager of Campus Security and emergency services as appropriate
• Respond to medical emergencies, fires, severe weather, hazardous conditions, and other emergencies; render aid within the scope of training and certification; and support evacuation, shelter-in-place, and accountability procedures
• Respond to and de-escalate disturbances, conflicts, and policy violations; intervene only as authorized by College policy; report to Manager of Campus Security and request law enforcement assistance when circumstances warrant
• Enforce College rules, regulations, and policies, including Student Housing standards of conduct, parking and traffic rules, and prohibitions on weapons, alcohol, and controlled substances
• Prepare and submit accurate, legible, and timely daily activity reports and incident reports to the Manager of Campus Security; maintain shift logs, patrol records, and the daily crime log as directed
• Report Clery-reportable crimes, allegations of sexual harassment and sexual violence subject to Title IX, and other required disclosures promptly through established College channels; support timely warning and emergency notification processes
• Preserve and protect incident scenes; secure evidence and lost and found property; and cooperate with local police, fire, EMS, and other outside agencies as directed
• Conduct welfare checks on residents at the direction of the Manager of Campus Security or Residence Life staff, and support missing student notification procedures for residents of on-campus student housing
• Provide escorts for students, employees, and visitors across campus or to vehicles on request, and provide motorist assistance as authorized
• Engage, build, and maintain positive, professional working relationships with students, employees, residents, and visitors; provide directions, information, and courteous customer service
• Operate security equipment and systems, including two-way radios, telephones, access control and video surveillance systems, alarm panels, and assigned College vehicles
• Safeguard the confidentiality of student and employee information at all times, consistent with FERPA and College privacy policies, and release information only as authorized.
• Maintain a professional appearance and conduct; wear the assigned uniform and required equipment; and keep assigned equipment clean and serviceable
• Comply with all campus security policies and procedures, post orders, and standard operating procedures
• Maintain all required licensure and certification in good standing, including C.L.E.E.T. licensure and all mandated refresher, requalification, and continuing education requirements
• Attend and complete assigned training, drills, briefings, and staff meetings, including Clery Act, Title IX, emergency response, first aid/CPR/AED, and de-escalation training
• Provide coverage for other shifts, posts, and campus locations as assigned, including mandatory overtime during emergencies, special events, or staffing shortages Knowledge / Skills

• Demonstrates ability to prepare clear, accurate written incident reports and to use basic computer applications, email, and electronic reporting systems Education and Work Experience
• High school diploma or GED required
• Two (2+) or more years of experience in security, law enforcement, corrections, military service, loss prevention, or a closely related field preferred
• Prior experience in a college, university, campus, or other 24-hour residential or student-facing environment preferred
• Experience monitoring closed-circuit television, electronic access control, or alarm monitoring systems preferred
• Documented training or experience in verbal de-escalation, crisis intervention, or conflict resolution preferred
• Experience working effectively with a diverse student, employee, and visitor population
• Availability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and to work overtime or respond to emergency call-in with limited notice Certificates, License, Registrations
• C.L.E.E.T. license or submitted paperwork for the license
• Valid driver's license
• Current first aid, CPR, and AED certification Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, night vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires hearing sufficient to monitor radio traffic and to detect alarms and calls for assistance, and the ability to communicate clearly by voice and radio in noisy or emergency conditions. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and requires regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, ice, and snow. The employee may be exposed to vehicle and aircraft traffic, aviation maintenance and shop environments, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and loud noise. The position carries a foreseeable risk of contact with hostile, agitated, or physically confrontational individuals and of exposure to bloodborne pathogens. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may be loud in shop, hangar, or flight-line areas. Shift work, including nights, weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, and mandatory overtime, is required.
