Position Extended Day Coordinator – Schools Uniting Neighborhoods (SUN) – Russell Elementary School, 2700 NE 127th Ave, Portland, OR 97230. Non‑Exempt; Administrative Support Workers; 8864. Status: On‑call/ Casual without Benefits. Wage: Starting at $18 per hour based on experience. FLSA: Non‑Exempt; Professional; 8864. LOCATIONS: Russell Elementary School. Number of positions: 1. Program Summary Schools Uniting Neighborhoods (SUN) Community Schools provide a comprehensive set of services to the school communities served. IRCO’s SUN program offers a variety of youth academic and enrichment classes, parent workshops, school events, food security programs, food pantries, and more at school sites around outer N/NE/SE Portland. Position Summary The SUN Extended Day Coordinator supports the SUN Site Manager by providing administrative support, data entry, behavioral support in extended day classrooms, and acts as a substitute when the manager is absent. All programs and services are offered in‑person at a public school in Multnomah County. Essential Functions Treat youth and fellow staff respectfully while executing classroom management and adhering to school rules. Create, develop and/or implement an age‑appropriate curriculum for youth enrichment classes (art, soccer, music, writing, crafts, STEM, drama, etc.). Record and report accurate attendance. Support SUN Manager with registration paperwork and program implementation. Support SUN Manager with data collection and data entry for all required databases. Support SUN Manager with behavior and classroom management for classes during extended day programming. Provide first aid to students participating in activities. Assist program partners, hourly staff, volunteers and vendors with onsite orientation. Serve as a substitute to perform the duties of SUN Manager when the manager is unavailable. Encourage and assist youth with homework and schoolwork when applicable. Communicate effectively with SUN Site Manager and parents about student successes and challenges. Support school family nights, special events and program & event promotion as needed. Ensure all shared classrooms and spaces are clean and well organized at the end of the program day. Attend site‑specific SUN staff meetings and orientations. Secondary Functions Develop community‑aware relationships with students, families and community members. Use good judgment when working with youth in a school setting. Create a supportive and safe environment for community participation through full participation program practice and implementation. Work effectively with individuals of varied backgrounds. Use bilingual skills to support communication in students’ and families’ preferred language when possible. Support hunger relief efforts for the SUN site, as needed. Engage in recommended professional development and other assigned training activities. Requirements Education & Experience Must be 18 years or older. High school degree or equivalent preferred; equivalent experience may be considered. Willingness to complete training on child abuse reporting and classroom management skills. Enthusiastic attitude and passion for education and/or food security. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Excellent multitasking skills and ability to prioritize and complete multiple and varied tasks. Understanding of client confidentiality and privacy. Preferred Qualifications Fluency in a language other than English, especially top languages spoken at the school. Experience working directly with young people in groups of 15 or more. Experience planning and implementing lesson plans for school‑aged youth. Experience with classroom management and behavior management. Physical, Mental, & Environmental Requirements Job takes place in person at Russell Elementary School. Physical: requires lifting, carrying, or constant movement. Mental: tasks are largely routine; employee must complete all assigned tasks. Environmental: moderate personal risk; may involve noise, temperature changes, or interactions with angry or hostile people. Schedule: stable, predominantly 1 pm‑5 pm Monday‑Thursday during SUN sessions; hours not to exceed 20 hrs per week. Supervisory responsibilities: responsible for daily work of staff/volunteers in similar roles; not responsible for hiring, firing or disciplinary actions.
