Industrial Hygienist Position

We are seeking an Industrial Hygienist to join our team supporting the Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) at their Kesselring site! This position is full-time and will be based out of West Milton, NY. This role is anticipated to be 18 months with the possibility of extension.

Responsibilities

• Conduct and document industrial hygiene exposure assessments as part of a comprehensive industrial hygiene assessment of site processes.
• Perform field surveillances, conduct workforce interviews, and review established procedures and industrial hygiene data.
• Conduct industrial hygiene sampling and interpret the results, including sampling for hazards such as asbestos, silica, volatile organic compounds, welding fumes, noise dosimetry, and area noise measurements.
• Assist with general industrial hygiene work for the site.
• Use professional judgment while assisting with industrial hygiene exposure judgments.

Requirements

• Education & Years of Experience – Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline.
• Citizenship – To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.
• Clearance – To be considered, you MUST be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance before you can start. Candidates with an active DOE "L" Clearance or DOD "Secret" clearance are HIGHLY DESIRED.
• Demonstrated experience within industrial hygiene, including sampling and calibration of industrial hygiene equipment.
• Demonstrated strong interpersonal and teaming skills with the ability to coordinate multi-discipline teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Upon reporting, must have full mobility, be able to walk on uneven surfaces, climb up and down ladders, work in an industrial environment, and have unrestricted access to a nuclear facility.

Desired Skills

• Education & Years of Experience – Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline from an ABET accredited college or university.
• Demonstrated experience with all aspects of software architecture (design, implementation, testing, maintenance, configuration management).
• Experience functioning within an agile development methodology.
• Ability to work effectively across multiple projects simultaneously.
• Demonstrated ability and passion for developing scientific software.
• Capacity to work independently, as well as within interdisciplinary teams with minimal supervision.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is comprised of the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, located in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory located in Niskayuna, New York, the Kesselring Site, located in West Milton, New York, and the Naval Reactor Facility located in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Together, they develop advanced technology for the United States Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, ensure the safety and reliability of naval nuclear reactors, and train Sailors who operate reactors in submarines and aircraft carrier fleets (energy.gov).
