Personal Controller / CFO 

Location: Miami, FL / Houston, TX (on-site / hybrid) 

Reports to: General Partner Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire 

Position Summary 

A General Partner of a Boca Raton–area private equity firm is seeking an experienced Personal Controller/CFO to oversee the full scope of his/her personal financial affairs. This is a dedicated, single-principal role (family-office style) responsible for personal bookkeeping and financial statements, cash flow and liquidity management, coordination of tax and estate matters with outside advisors, insurance program oversight, trust administration support, and personal financing and banking relationships. The ideal candidate combines the technical rigor of a controller with the strategic judgment of a CFO, and is comfortable operating with a high degree of discretion, accuracy, and confidentiality alongside a principal whose wealth is closely tied to illiquid PE fund interests, carried interest, and co-invest positions. 

Key Responsibilities 

Personal Financial Planning & Reporting 

• Develop and maintain a comprehensive personal financial plan covering liquidity needs, capital calls, distributions, and long-term wealth objectives. 

• Model net worth, cash flow projections, and liquidity scenarios tied to fund capital calls, carried interest timing, and co-investment commitments. 

• Prepare periodic personal financial statements (balance sheet, cash flow, income summary) for the principal's review and for lenders, insurers, or advisors as needed. 

• Track performance and valuation of personal investments, including PE fund interests, co-investments, real estate, and other holdings. 

Bookkeeping & Financial Statement Preparation 

• Maintain accurate, up-to-date books of record for all personal accounts, entities, and household expenses using QuickBooks or a comparable platform. 

• Reconcile bank, brokerage, and credit accounts monthly; manage bill pay and household/family office disbursements. 

• Produce clean, audit-ready personal financial statements and supporting schedules on a recurring basis. 

• Maintain organized records for personal holding entities, LLCs, and investment vehicles used for estate and tax planning. 

Tax Coordination 

• Coordinate with outside CPAs and tax counsel on personal, entity-level, and trust tax filings, estimated payments, and planning strategies. 

• Track K-1s, carried interest allocations, and other PE-related tax items; maintain a filing calendar and gather supporting documentation. 

• Support basic tax-efficient planning considerations (e.g., timing of distributions, charitable giving, entity structuring) in partnership with the principal's tax advisors — not a substitute for licensed tax/legal counsel. 

Insurance Oversight 

• Evaluate and periodically benchmark personal insurance coverage, including property & casualty, umbrella/excess liability, life, disability, and D&O/personal liability exposure related to fund activities. 

• Manage relationships with insurance brokers, ensure adequate coverage levels as net worth and asset composition change, and process renewals and claims. 

Trust & Estate Administration Support 

• Serve as the principal's day-to-day point of contact with trust and estate attorneys, trustees, and administrators. 

• Track funding, distributions, and administrative requirements across personal and family trusts; maintain organized trust documentation. 

• Support gifting strategies, entity funding, and periodic estate plan reviews in coordination with legal counsel. 

Cash Flow & Treasury Management 

• Own the personal cash management process, including forecasting for capital calls, tax payments, large purchases, and recurring obligations. 

• Optimize cash positioning across accounts to balance liquidity needs against yield on idle cash. 

• Monitor and manage credit lines, margin facilities, and other short-term liquidity tools. 

Financing & Banking Relationships 

• Manage relationships with private banks, lenders, and wealth managers; negotiate and administer personal credit facilities, mortgages, and capital call financing arrangements. 

• Evaluate financing options for large personal purchases, real estate, or co-investment funding needs. 

• Prepare financial packages and documentation required for lender underwriting and periodic covenant reporting. 

Qualifications 

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA and/or CFP strongly preferred. 

• 10+ years of experience in a family office, personal CFO/controller, private wealth, or public accounting role, ideally supporting a principal with private equity, carried interest, or complex investment holdings. 

• Strong working knowledge of personal bookkeeping and financial statement preparation (QuickBooks proficiency required). 

• Solid grasp of individual, trust, and pass-through entity tax concepts sufficient to coordinate effectively with outside CPAs and attorneys (not required to file returns directly). 

• Experience evaluating and administering personal insurance programs. 

• Familiarity with trust structures, estate planning concepts, and working alongside trust and estate counsel. 

• Excellent cash flow modeling and forecasting skills, including comfort with illiquid, capital-call-driven liquidity profiles. 

• Established or demonstrated ability to build private banking and lending relationships. 

• Exceptional discretion, integrity, and judgment in handling highly confidential financial information. 

• Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail; able to work independently and directly with a busy principal. 

Location

This role is based in the Boca Raton, Florida area. Candidates should either reside locally or be willing to relocate. Some in-person availability is expected, with a hybrid schedule to be determined based on the principal's preference and the needs of the role.
