Speech Pathologist/Audiologist Specialist 3
Are you a task-oriented person looking for a fulfilling position? Washington State Department of Social and Health Services' (DSHS) Behavioral Health and Habilitation Administration (BHHA) is seeking a Speech Pathologist/Audiologist Specialist 3 to join the team at Fircrest Residential Habilitation Center. Located in Shoreline, Washington, it is surrounded by 88 acres of quiet natural beauty, yet easily accessible by car or public transportation. We welcome you to join our community of hard-working professionals. We offer competitive benefits, on-the-job training, meaningful work, and long-term career opportunities.
This is a highly rewarding opportunity in which you will have a direct impact on the people around you!
Please note that, as this opportunity is available in King County, employees assigned to a permanent duty station in King County will receive a 5% premium pay calculated from their base salary.
What sets Fircrest Residential Habilitation Center apart as an ideal employer for Speech-Language Pathologists:
- Unique Growth Opportunities: At Fircrest, you'll have the chance to work with a distinctive population that you won't encounter in other settings. This opens doors for expanding your expertise in new areas of speech therapy.
- Holiday Time Off: We value work-life balance and provide time off on major holidays, including Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day.
- No Productivity Pressure: We don't impose productivity requirements on our Speech-Language Pathologists. You have the autonomy to determine service times for clients based on your clinical judgment.
- Reasonable Documentation Expectations: Our paperwork expectations are reasonable, including annual evaluations, monthly program notes when applicable, and updates when a client experiences a change in condition. Daily treatment notes are not required.
- Supportive Management: You won't experience micromanagement from supervisors or management when it comes to clinical decision-making. We trust our SLPs to make the best choices for their clients' needs.
Some of what you will do:
- Develop, implement, and supervise formal communication programs/interventions to address identified communication needs for each of the clients on your caseload.
- Provide individual written assessments/evaluations for an intellectually disabled population with multiple disabilities as pertaining to speech, language, or hearing disabilities.
- Evaluate recommendations and monitor clients with dysphagia.
- Work within an interdisciplinary team (IDT) and develop intervention/programs that support interdisciplinary team-identified priorities; prioritize individual needs as determined by team consensus.
- Design and construct adaptive equipment for communication.
- Evaluate, acquire, and program communication devices.
- Create communication displays using LessonPix or other graphic software.
- Consult with other professionals and staff on program development.
What we're looking for:
- Ability to provide communication-based behavior services to individuals with cognitive impairments exhibiting significant behavioral challenges complicated by communication needs
- Ability to coach and train caregivers, communication partners, and team members
- Ability to work as a collaborative team member
- Ability to perform informal, functional communication evaluations
- Ability to target functional, everyday communication skills
- Ability to provide dysphagia services, including: conduct clinical swallow evaluations, develop accommodations and interventions, make recommendations, and participate in evaluations
- Ability to communicate with nonverbal clients
- Ability to effectively communicate with management, peers, clients, and the public
- Ability to comprehend and effectively communicate all issues related to client care and facility operations
Who should apply?
- Those licensed by the State of Washington as a Speech Language Pathologist or Audiologist.
- A Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
- Four years of experience as a speech pathologist, audiologist, or equivalent education.
- Equivalent education/experience.
The Department of Social and Health Services' (DSHS) vision that people find human services to shape their own lives requires that we come together with a sense of belonging, common purpose, shared values, and meaningful work. It is crucial to our agency's vision that you bring a fairness, access, and social justice commitment to your work with DSHS. We strive to support all Washingtonians, including Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, people with physical, behavioral health, and intellectual disabilities, elders, LGBTQIA+ individuals, immigrants and refugees, and families building financial security.
