Surgical First Assist

Job Overview Corewell Health is offering up to $10,000 as a sign‑on bonus for this opportunity. Responsibilities Collaborate with all health team members using advanced knowledge of anatomy and physiology and extensive patient assessment skills. Perform all activities at an expanded level of surgical technician practice within the nursing process. Actively assist the surgeon intraoperatively, performing observable technical behaviors (cognitive, psychomotor, and affective). Independently assist the surgeon with patient positioning, skin preparation, tissue handling, wound exposure, hemostasis, manipulation of surgical instruments, and wound closure (under supervision of a preceptor for the intern). Work towards independence by completing all STFA competencies. Qualifications Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology or equivalent (successful completion of an accredited school of surgical technology). Successfully complete a certification STFA course that addresses didactic knowledge and technical skills. Required CRT‑Surgical First Assistant, Certified (CSFA) – NBSTSA upon hire. Required 3 years of relevant experience within a surgical services nursing department. Required AHA OR ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire. Required CRT‑Surgical Technologist, Certified (CST) – AST upon hire, or CST – NBSTSA upon hire, or CST – ABSA upon hire. Preferred CRT‑Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – AHA.
