About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking an experienced Director of Cybersecurity Operations to lead and mature an enterprise cybersecurity program supporting a complex healthcare provider organization. This is a highly visible leadership role reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and is viewed as a succession opportunity for an individual with the leadership capability and strategic vision to grow into a future Chief Information Security Officer (CISO).
This position requires a proven cybersecurity leader who has successfully built and managed enterprise security programs, led cross-functional initiatives, managed cybersecurity portfolios, and partnered with executive leadership to align security strategy with business objectives.
This is an onsite position requiring five (5) days per week in the office.
Position Summary
The Director of Cybersecurity Operations provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the organization's cybersecurity program. This individual will be responsible for protecting clinical, business, and technology environments while ensuring regulatory compliance, operational resilience, and continuous improvement of the organization's security posture.
The ideal candidate possesses deep experience within a healthcare provider environment , understands the unique cybersecurity challenges associated with clinical operations and patient care, and has successfully managed enterprise cybersecurity initiatives across multiple security domains.
This role will oversee cybersecurity strategy, governance, security operations, identity and access management (IAM), risk management, incident response, vulnerability management, third-party risk, cloud security, and data protection while partnering closely with executive leadership across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Lead, develop, and mature the enterprise cybersecurity program.
- Develop and execute multi-year cybersecurity roadmaps aligned with organizational priorities.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on cybersecurity strategy, investments, and enterprise risk.
- Present cybersecurity metrics, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Drive continuous improvement across security operations and governance.
Cybersecurity Program Management
- Lead enterprise cybersecurity initiatives from strategy through execution.
- Manage a portfolio of cybersecurity projects and investments.
- Prioritize initiatives based on business risk and organizational objectives.
- Develop cybersecurity budgets and resource plans.
- Establish KPIs, operational metrics, and executive reporting.
Security Operations
Provide leadership for:
- Security Operations (SOC)
- Incident Response
- Vulnerability Management
- Identity & Access Management (IAM)
- Endpoint Security
- Security Monitoring
- Threat Detection & Response
- Cloud Security
- Zero Trust initiatives
- Security Architecture
Governance, Risk & Compliance
- Lead enterprise risk assessments and remediation planning.
- Develop and maintain cybersecurity policies and standards.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulatory requirements including HIPAA and HITECH.
- Support audits, assessments, and regulatory reviews.
- Oversee third-party risk management.
Leadership
- Build, mentor, and develop high-performing cybersecurity teams.
- Foster collaboration across IT, clinical, compliance, legal, and executive leadership.
- Promote a culture of cybersecurity awareness throughout the organization.
- Drive accountability, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive cybersecurity experience.
- Minimum 5 years of cybersecurity leadership experience.
- Experience leading enterprise cybersecurity programs within a healthcare provider organization.
- Experience managing enterprise cybersecurity portfolios and strategic initiatives.
- Experience presenting cybersecurity strategy and risk to executive leadership.
- Strong understanding of:

- Experience developing cybersecurity budgets, roadmaps, and strategic plans.
Preferred
- Master's degree.
- CISSP certification (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
- HCISPP certification (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
- Experience securing cloud, hybrid, and clinical technology environments.
- Experience supporting healthcare regulatory compliance initiatives.

The successful candidate is an accomplished cybersecurity leader who has successfully built and operated enterprise cybersecurity programs within a healthcare provider environment. They are equally comfortable discussing strategic risk with executive leadership as they are guiding technical teams through operational challenges.
This individual has demonstrated success leading organizational cybersecurity transformations, managing complex security portfolios, mentoring technical leaders, and driving enterprise-wide security initiatives.
Most importantly, this person has the executive presence, leadership capability, and strategic mindset to develop into a future Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) .
