A day in the life

You’ll arrive to a clean, well-equipped shop and take ownership of a job from setup through final verification. You’ll review a blueprint, select tooling, set offsets, and program or load proven CNC routines on Mazak and HAAS equipment. You will bring parts into tight tolerance, run first‑piece checks, perform in‑process inspections with calibrated gauges, and make the right adjustments to hold quality. When the last pass is complete, you may serve as the final inspector—signing off on work that meets specification.

What you’ll do

• Interpret blueprints and design sketches; confirm dimensions, GD&T callouts, and specifications.
• Set up and operate CNC and manual lathes, mills, borers, and grinders to exact tolerances.
• Determine appropriate speeds/feeds; choose cutting tools, attachments, workholding, and materials.
• Produce and verify first‑article parts; perform frequent in‑process checks using a wide range of metrology tools.
• Measure finished workpieces; diagnose defects; adjust machine controls and offsets to correct errors.
• Apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) as specified on prints.
• Operate primarily on Mazak and HAAS platforms; protect materials through accurate setup and careful execution.
• Recognize potential drawing issues and communicate corrections; may act as final inspector on completed parts.

What you bring

• Excellent mechanical aptitude and solid shop math.
• Proficiency reading blueprints/plans and operating diverse machine tools for progressive machining.
• Hands‑on experience with CNC setup and changeover; comfort with Windows applications (e.g., MS Office).

Minimum qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1–3 years of manufacturing experience.
• Demonstrated proficiency in shop math and blueprint reading.
