Civil Litigation Attorney for Auto Finance

Modern Financial Services Corporation is seeking aMichigan-licensed Attorney to join our legal team and handle first-party collections litigation, bankruptcy matters, and other legal disputes related to our auto finance business. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney who wants to build a strong foundation in civil litigation, creditors' rights, auto finance, bankruptcy, and post-judgment collections while taking meaningful ownership of cases from beginning to end. You will have the opportunity to handle your own matters, appear in court, work directly with opposing counsel and consumers, and develop practical litigation skills in a supportive environment. We are willing to train the right candidate and provide the guidance, resources, and experienced support necessary to learn our business and legal processes. You will work closely with legal assistants and coverage attorneys, while having primary responsibility for your assigned matters. RESPONSIBILITIES Handle first-party collections litigation from start to finish, including case review, pleadings, discovery, motions, settlement, judgment, and post-judgment matters. Handle and oversee bankruptcy matters involving auto finance accounts. Review accounts, contracts, payment histories, and supporting documentation to evaluate legal claims and develop appropriate litigation strategies. Draft and review pleadings, motions, discovery, correspondence, settlement agreements, and other legal documents. Communicate with opposing counsel, consumers, courts, and coverage attorneys. Work closely with legal assistants to ensure case files are accurate, organized, and current and that deadlines and court requirements are met. Stay current on applicable Michigan laws, court rules, bankruptcy requirements, and developments affecting auto finance and creditors' rights. QUALIFICATIONS Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school. Active Michigan Bar license and good standing. Collections litigation and bankruptcy experience preferred, but not required. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple cases, deadlines, and priorities independently. Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and organizational skills.
