MEP Operations Manager

Position OverviewThe MEP Operations Manager will lead and coordinate mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) operations across commercial and institutional construction projects. This role is responsible for driving field performance, quality assurance, safety, financial results and client satisfaction while supporting Project Managers and the business unit in planning, execution and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate combines deep technical knowledge of MEP systems with strong operational leadership and commercial acumen in sectors such as healthcare, hospitality and education.Key ResponsibilitiesLead day-to-day MEP operations, supervising field management, superintendents and subcontractors to ensure safe, timely and compliant project execution.Collaborate with Project Managers to plan resources, schedules and project delivery strategies across multiple concurrent jobs.Oversee quality assurance and commissioning processes for mechanical, plumbing and HVAC systems to meet design specifications and client expectations.Manage financial performance of MEP projects including forecasting, budget control, billings, cost-to-complete review and recovery of change orders and charge backs.Review, prepare and approve pricing, quotes and change order documentation; drive resolution of claims and disputes in coordination with commercial and legal teams.Ensure compliance with contract requirements including bonds, certificates of insurance (COI) and risk management protocols.Implement and enforce safety programs, site inspections and OSHA-compliant procedures to reduce incidents and maintain a strong safety culture.Conduct regular operations meetings and progress reviews with Project Managers, superintendents and stakeholders to drive accountability and continuous improvement.Monitor and report operational KPIs and financial metrics to senior management and the business unit leadership.Support the recruitment, development and performance management of field and technical staff; provide coaching and mentoring to elevate team capability.Coordinate with procurement and subcontract management for materials, equipment and vendor performance to maintain schedule and quality.Drive process improvements, standardized procedures and best practices for MEP construction and maintenance activities.Represent the company in client meetings, inspections and close-out activities to ensure satisfaction and secure repeat business.QualificationsBachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management or related field; equivalent experience will be considered.Plumbing license and/or Mechanical Engineering license or certification preferred.8+ years of progressive experience in MEP construction, operations or field management with demonstrated leadership of multi-site programs.Proven experience in commercial construction and exposure to healthcare, hospitality and education projects.Strong working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, mechanical systems, installation standards and commissioning practices.Demonstrated expertise in project financials: budgeting, forecasting, billings, change orders, pricing and claims management.Experience with contracts, bonds, certificates of insurance and risk management practices.Skilled in safety management and implementation of OSHA-compliant site programs.Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills; comfortable leading meetings and client interactions.Proficient with project management and construction management software (e.g., MS Project, Procore) and standard office tools.Certifications such as PMP, LEED or construction safety credentials are a plus.Ability to travel to job sites and work flexible hours as project needs require.BenefitsCompetitive Base Salary: $125k - $155kLucrative BonusCar Allowance/Company VehicleHealth InsuranceDental InsuranceVision InsuranceLife InsuranceRetirement PlanPaid Time OffPaid Holidays
