Material Control Operator

The Material Control Operator accurately tracks and manages raw material inventory across multiple branch locations in a fast-paced aerospace environment. This role combines hands-on material handling with detailed inventory control, data entry, and coordination with production and quality teams to ensure materials are received, stored, moved, and documented correctly.

Responsibilities

• Operate sit-down forklifts, order pickers, side-loader forklifts, and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
• Load and unload metal raw materials manually and with forklifts, ensuring safe handling and proper placement.
• Complete material receiving activities for shipments between locations and direct shipments from mills.
• Coordinate movement of material from stock to processing to support production requirements and schedules.
• Perform inventory control and cycle counting duties to maintain accurate stock levels.
• Enter inventory data into the inventory management system accurately and in a timely manner.
• Record inventory and material movement data manually using clipboards and other documentation tools when required.
• Prepare and maintain accurate inventory identification tags and labels for all materials.
• Complete material consolidation tasks, including organizing and maintaining supermarket inventory areas.
• Identify material shortages, discrepancies, and issues, and communicate them promptly to the appropriate staff.
• Perform verification of scrap and ensure proper documentation and handling of scrap materials.
• Maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail in all written work and data entry.
• Assist the quality assurance team with activities related to credits and material verification.
• Perform equipment preventative maintenance and general clean-up tasks to keep work areas safe and organized.
• Use tape measures and calipers to inspect and measure materials for accuracy and quality.
• Follow established chain-of-custody procedures and complete all related paperwork accurately.
• Participate in classroom training during the first week and work closely with an experienced trainer or operator until fully proficient.
• Maintain strong attendance and reliability to support consistent production and inventory operations.
• Work on your feet for extended periods while performing material handling, measuring, and documentation tasks.

Essential Skills

• At least 1.5 years of experience operating forklifts, including sit-down forklifts, order pickers, or similar equipment.
• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English and perform basic math calculations.
• Basic computer skills for data entry into an inventory management system.
• Experience performing basic data entry to track inventory, counts, and material locations.
• Ability to use a tape measure and calipers for material inspection and measurement.
• Certification to operate material handling equipment such as forklifts, side-loaders, 4-directional lifts, or cherry-pickers.
• Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy in written work and data entry.
• Comfort working in a warehouse environment and operating machinery.
• Ability to work on your feet for extended periods while handling materials and completing paperwork.
• Experience working with raw materials, preferably in an aerospace or similar industrial environment.
• Strong attendance record and consistent work history with regard to tenure.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Three years of material control or inventory experience (preferred).
• Previous experience safely operating a variety of material handling equipment, including forklifts and side-loaders (preferred).
• Experience handling and moving raw materials in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
• Familiarity with inventory control processes such as cycle counting and material consolidation.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with multiple material movements and priorities.
• Ability to follow detailed procedures and maintain chain-of-custody documentation.
• Experience supporting aerospace industry operations or other highly regulated industries (preferred).

Work Environment

The position is based in a large raw material supplier facility where metal materials are stored, cut, and shipped to customers in the aerospace industry. The floor environment is fast-paced, with more than 60 employees working across multiple areas and buildings. Work involves frequent operation of forklifts, order pickers, side-loaders, and other material handling equipment, as well as regular use of computers for inventory data entry and tools such as tape measures and calipers for material inspection. The role is warehouse-based and requires working on your feet, handling heavy raw materials, and moving between storage and processing areas. Multiple shifts are available. First shift typically runs Monday through Thursday from early morning to mid-afternoon. Second shift options include Monday through Friday mid-day to evening and Monday through Thursday afternoon to late night. Third shift runs Friday through Sunday with extended hours. Orientation takes place on a scheduled Monday morning and includes primarily classroom training during the first week, followed by pairing with an experienced trainer or operator until you are ready to work independently. Dress is appropriate for a warehouse and industrial environment, with an emphasis on safety and readiness to operate equipment and handle materials.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Auburn, WA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.50 - $24.50/hr.
