Compensation

• Base pay starting between $78,200-$97,800 per year

We take into consideration the minimum requirements outlined in the job description, such as, training and experience, the position's work location, required travel (if any), and external market conditions when determining the final salary for potential new hires.

Job Duties

The Payroll Manager is responsible for the management of all payroll processing, payroll tax, payroll system administration, reporting and compliance. This person will provide leadership and development to payroll associates, will work directly with functional department leaders, and act as a subject matter expert for the organization. This role requires working effectively in a team environment, establishing open and collaborative channels of communication, and is detail-oriented and deadline driven.

Essential (Primary) Functions:

• Oversees and ensures timely and accurate processing of weekly and bi-weekly payrolls for approximately 5000 associates across 45 locations in four states.
• Responsible for formulating and implementing strategies, policies, and procedures related to the payroll function.
• Trains, mentors and develops staff of the payroll team
• Ensures compliance with federal, state and local payroll laws, wage and hour laws, and best practices.
• Oversees and/or prepares quarterly and annual filings, including 941s and W-2s.
• Reviews and approves the reconciliation of payroll to the general ledger and ensures accurate posting and accruals.
• Facilitates adjustments for raises, bonuses, and commission, setting up and evaluating earnings codes.
• Provides insight into labor and wage variances to budget and prior year and provides metrics to the business as requested.
• Provides reporting to support tax filings, month-end and year-end close, and financial and 401k audits.
• Proactively resolves payroll discrepancies and irregularities.
• Responsible for monitoring, updating, and testing updates, upgrades, and integrations in the Ultipro/UKG environment.
• Performs payroll processing functions during staff absences or short processing deadlines (for example, some holiday weeks).
• Identifies and implements process improvements and efficiencies.

Qualifications

• Five or more years processing high-volume, multi-state payroll.
• Three or more years of leadership experience supervising payroll teams.
• Comprehensive knowledge of payroll processes, best practices, related laws, and regulations.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, HR or Business Administration.
• Retail experience (multi-unit/multi-state) preferred
• Background within a private or family- owned business preferred.
• Experience with UKG (formerly UltiPro) payroll processing preferred, but other payroll software system experience will be considered.
