The National Institute on Aging (NIA), a major research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position in the Neuromuscular Diseases Research Section. This is an opportunity to develop as an independent scientist within a dynamic, collaborative intramural research environment at NIH in Bethesda, MD.

Research environment Under the leadership of Dr. Bryan Traynor, the Neuromuscular Diseases Research Section investigates the genetic causes and molecular mechanisms of neurological diseases, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis/frontotemporal dementia, as well as other neurodegenerative diseases. The Section integrates genomic, proteomic, and other multi-omics approaches to identify disease genes, risk factors, biological pathways, biomarkers, and potential therapeutic targets. The laboratory has a strong record of discovery, with publications in journals including Neuron, Nature Genetics, Nature Medicine, the New England Journal of Medicine, and PNAS, and collaborates extensively with other laboratories to advance neuroscience research. Position responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to assigned research projects focused on the genetics and biology of neurodegenerative disease.
• Analyze and integrate genomic, proteomic, and other omics datasets, preferably in the context of neurological diseases.
• Work collaboratively with investigators, trainees, and research staff within the Section and across collaborating laboratories.
• Prepare manuscripts for publication and present research findings at national and international meetings.

Qualifications

Applicants should have a Ph.D., an M.D., or a related doctoral degree in neuroscience, genetics, bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related field. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in neurogenetics and experience or enthusiasm for analyzing large-scale genomic, proteomic, and other omics data. Candidates with strengths in statistical genetics, bioinformatics, computational biology, data integration, or neurodegenerative disease research are especially encouraged to apply.
