Accounting Manager

Location: Boston, MA | 2 remote days/week after onboarding Salary Range: $90K-$120K | Bonus Eligible Schedule: Full-time | Monday-Friday, 9-5 | Non-exempt Required: Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of accounting management experience within a law firm or professional services environment Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship. About the Opportunity A well-established Boston law firm is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee key aspects of its financial operations. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this role manages general ledger accounting, client trust accounting, payroll, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance . The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and experienced in managing accounting operations within a law firm or professional services environment . This position offers an opportunity to contribute to process improvements, strengthen internal controls, and support the firm’s financial and operational objectives. Qualifications & Skills Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field 7+ years of accounting management experience within a law firm or professional services environment Strong knowledge of accounting principles, payroll, client trust accounting, and compliance requirements Experience with law firm accounting and practice-management systems preferred Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills Strong attention to detail and accuracy Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a hybrid work environment Key Responsibilities Oversee financial operations , including cash flow, banking, wire transfers, and credit card management Manage client trust accounting , including deposits, disbursements, and compliance Maintain the general ledger , process invoices and payments, and complete monthly reconciliations Process biweekly payroll and administer employee benefits and 401(k) contributions Coordinate month-end and year-end close and prepare financial and practice-management reports Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax requirements, and internal accounting policies Coordinate tax filings and support external audits and financial reviews Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls Lead accounting system transitions, document procedures, and train staff as needed Support financial analysis and special projects as requested by leadership Bring your accounting expertise to a respected Boston law firm and play a key role in maintaining accurate, compliant, and efficient financial operations.
