Job Title Nursing Station Clerk/NSC Trainee – Full Time Evening Shift (3:00 PM – 11:30 PM) Position Summary Nursing Station Clerks are assigned to inpatient or outpatient units and serve as the first point of contact for patients, visitors, and staff. They greet visitors, answer phones, perform data entry, maintain daily and clinical logs, update patient charts, prepare medication tickets and pharmacy requisitions, mail patient letters, and deliver supplies and records to units. The position is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS), and may be filled through a non‑competitive appointment during the program period. Responsibilities Orient patients and families to the unit, providing general information and serving as a contact person for their needs. Answer visitors and direct them to appropriate locations. Process physicians' orders by recording written orders in charts, kardex, flag sheets, or a computer file after review by a registered nurse; fill out medication tickets and pharmacy requisitions. Receive new admissions, prepare and maintain patient charts and daily logs, and update clinic logs. Qualifications Must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for Nursing Station Clerk 1. One year of full‑time clerical or patient‑care experience in a health‑care setting is required for provisional appointments. Eligible candidates must complete the upcoming examination and remain on the resulting eligible list. Must possess a current 55b/c eligibility letter if applicable. Must have one year of permanent competitive service in a title approved for transfer to Nursing Station Clerk 1. Pre‑Employment Requirements Successful completion of a pre‑employment physical examination and medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine’s Employee Health Services. Electronic reference check with a minimum of three professional references. Completion of a four‑panel drug screen. Meeting all regulatory pre‑employment screening requirements. Providing any required New York State license(s) or certificate(s). Potential requirement to wear respiratory protection and adhere to facial‑hair policies. Designation as an essential position may require continued presence during institutional emergencies. Pay Range The salary range for this position is $36,232 – $38,235 per year.
