Tikkun Olam Program Coordinator (Part-Time)

Position Overview The Tikkun Olam Program Director/Coordinator is responsible for the overall management, coordination, and impact of the synagogue’s Tikkun Olam initiatives. Inspired by Tikkun Olam, Repairing the World, as a congregational core value, this role advances a strategic, hands‑on approach to social impact—combining direct service, meaningful community partnerships, and opportunities for ongoing engagement. The Director/Coordinator will oversee existing programs, strengthen volunteer leadership and engagement, and, when appropriate, evolve existing programs and develop new initiatives that address critical issues impacting both the Jewish community and the larger community, locally, regionally, nationally and globally. The ideal candidate is highly organized, people‑oriented, and passionate about building sustained, meaningful pathways for congregational involvement in repairing the world. Key Responsibilities Program Management & Administration Oversee all existing Tikkun Olam programs, ensuring smooth execution and alignment with the synagogue’s mission and values Liase between program lay leadership and relevant NSCI staff to coordinate logistics and recruitment for and implementation of programs, including scheduling, materials, and on‑site support Maintain program calendars and ensure effective planning timelines Track participation, outcomes, and program effectiveness, with an emphasis on measurable impact Incorporate both one‑time service opportunities and ongoing, relationship‑based programs Attend and support Tikkun Olam programs as needed (some evenings/weekends required) Volunteer & Lay Leader Coordination Serve as the primary staff liaison to lay leaders and volunteer committees Recruit, support, and retain volunteers across diverse program areas Facilitate communication and collaboration among program leaders Provide structure, training, and guidance to strengthen volunteer‑led initiatives Cultivate leadership pipelines to deepen congregational ownership of Tikkun Olam work Program Development Develop and implement new Tikkun Olam initiatives that engage a broad cross‑section of the congregation (families, young adults, teens, seniors, etc.) Sustain our network of partnerships with local nonprofit organizations to create consistent, high‑impact service opportunities Identify emerging community needs and align synagogue efforts with areas of greatest impact Identify and integrate existing and new Tikkun Olam programs throughout all NSCI demographics Integrate Jewish values and learning into social action programming Communications & Engagement Coordinate program promotion with communications staff Clearly articulate the purpose, impact, and stories behind Tikkun Olam initiatives to inspire participation Manage event registrations, sign‑ups, and follow‑up communications Ensure consistent messaging that emphasizes both immediate service and long‑term change Budget & Operations Track program budgets and expenses in coordination with synagogue leadership Ensure programs operate within budget and resources are used effectively Evaluate cost‑effectiveness and impact of initiatives Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required Proven track record in program coordination, nonprofit work, community engagement, or related field Experience developing or supporting service‑learning, volunteer programs, or social justice initiatives preferred Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with strong attention to detail Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders Experience working with volunteers and/or lay leaders preferred Strong organizational and administrative skills Ability to work both independently and collaboratively Passion for social action, community service, and Jewish communal life Key Skills & Attributes Highly detail‑oriented and organized Strong people skills; approachable, collaborative, and responsive Proactive and creative problem‑solver Comfortable managing logistics alongside big‑picture strategy Able to motivate and inspire volunteers and participants Flexible and adaptable in a dynamic environment Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a highly organized, relationship‑driven professional who excels at coordinating logistics, supporting volunteers, and ensuring programs run smoothly while building meaningful connections across the congregation.
