Senior Human Rights Generalist Location: Whitinsville, MA Job Type: Full-Time Some remote work acceptable Department: Human Resources Reports To: HR Director About Koopman Lumber Koopman Lumber has served contractors, builders, homeowners, and communities across New England since 1939. We are a family-owned company with multiple locations in Massachusetts and Connecticut. This role sits on a small HR team and supports managers and employees across yards, stores, distribution, and the office. About the Role We are hiring a Senior Human Resources Generalist whose first job is employee relations. You will work directly with the HR Director on investigations, manager coaching, policy application, and the hard conversations that come with a multi-location, hourly and skilled-trades workforce. You will also own or support workers’ compensation, compensation administration, onboarding, and training/compliance (including Cornerstone). Paylocity experience is important. We already have a payroll specialist — this is not a payroll-processing seat. An employee relations specialist who wants a broader generalist role will be considered if the ER work is real and recent. We are looking for someone who plans to stay and build, not collect another two-year stop on a résumé. What You’ll Do Employee Relations (primary) Advise managers on attendance, performance, conduct, and policy Conduct and document workplace investigations Coach managers through corrective action and consistent documentation Help apply policies fairly across locations Flag ER trends and risk to the HR Director Workers’ Compensation, Compliance & Training Administer and follow workers’ compensation claims with managers, employees, and vendors Support leave administration (including MA PFML, FMLA, and related leave) Support wage-and-hour and multi-state employment-law compliance (MA and CT) Coordinate training and compliance tracking in Cornerstone Maintain confidential files and audit-ready records Onboarding, Compensation & HR Operations Support onboarding, promotions, transfers, status changes, and separations Assist with compensation processes, reporting, and related employee questions Keep HRIS data accurate in Paylocity Prepare HR reports and help improve processes Support benefits questions and programs as needed (open enrollment support, not vendor ownership as the core job) Why Koopman Small HR team, real access to the HR Director, and work that shows up in the yards and stores — not only in a ticket system. Requirements What You Bring Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, or related field, or equivalent experience 7+ years of progressive HR experience, or 5+ years as an employee relations specialist ready to work as a generalist Demonstrated experience running investigations and advising managers — not only routing tickets to someone else Workers’ compensation experience Onboarding and training/compliance experience; Cornerstone is a plus Compensation administration experience is a plus Paylocity experience is strongly preferred (we are not hiring a payroll processor) Experience supporting a multi-location workforce, preferably hourly, field, warehouse, retail, construction, or skilled trades Solid judgment, discretion, and written documentation Stable work history; we are not a fit for candidates who change employers every two years What This Role Is Not Not a recruiter-only job Not an HRIS analyst job Not a payroll-specialist job Not a corporate shared-services queue with no manager-facing ER #J-18808-Ljbffr Koopman Lumber Co Inc
