Speech and Language Pathologist (SY 2026/2027 Pending Budget Approval)

Position Purpose Under the general supervision of the Intermediate Special Education Supervisor and the Director of Pupil and Special Education Services, to assist students, teachers and families in enabling students to strive to their fullest potential educational experience from school by providing culturally competent speech and language services for students exhibiting a full range of disorders including (but not limited to) those involving language, hearing, articulation/speech sound disorders, voice and swallowing. Essential Performance Responsibilities Conduct speech, language and/or communication testing and diagnostic examinations of students for the purpose of recommending courses of action or corrective procedures of student communication disorder, delay, or difference and its impact on academic and social performance. Conduct individual, group or facilitative therapy for students whose diagnosed problems would benefit from services from a speech-language pathologist. Assist with the identification and placement of all types of exceptional students. Coordinate and collaborate with administrators and other teaching staff members to ascertain individual student's strengths and needs, including students with special needs, and to familiarize stakeholders with speech-language services. Attend and participate in meetings (i.e., PPTs) as needed for students with special needs. Serve as a ready resource in education and speech language pathology to students, families and staff to provide services that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity. Continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research, and by maintaining professional relationships. Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping and providing student information to prospective colleges and employers, as required by district procedures, applicable laws and Medicaid billing. Encourage and model family collaboration in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and families. Select and requisition appropriate books, aids and other supplies and equipment and maintain inventory records. Additional Duties Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of speech language pathology principles, assessments, methods, behavior modification, etc., and current developments in child psychology. Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles. Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students. Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed. Ability to organize and coordinate work. Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work. Requirements Connecticut licensure and certification as a Speech Language Pathologist (061). ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence preferred.
