Transportation Planner II (Environmental Focus)

Transportation Planner II (Arizona) AECOM is seeking a self‑motivated Transportation Planner II to join our Arizona transportation planning team, providing technical expertise and managing environmental tasks for public and private transportation and infrastructure clients throughout the US West Region. Responsibilities Conduct research, data reviews, and analysis to determine potential environmental effects related to transportation improvements. Collect various technical and statistical data and prepare reports and maps on topics such as census information, land use, and the natural environment. Support development of planning documents for transportation studies, including environmental documents, permits, alternatives impacts, and alternatives analysis. Interpret and compare findings of relevant studies for compliance with local, state, and federal planning and environmental requirements, standard procedures, and client expectations. Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to analyze data and prepare detailed maps for use in reports. Support agency stakeholder and public engagement efforts as part of the transportation planning and environmental review process. Schedule, attend, and prepare summary reports for meetings, both internal and external. Coordinate closely with a large team of governmental agencies, contractors, the public, and other project personnel. Identify and implement innovative tools to improve communication, file sharing, and workflow within a large project team. Develop and maintain databases. Track project schedule and task status, prepare status and progress reports on a regular basis. Assist with other duties assigned by senior staff and/or Project Managers. Under direct supervision, conduct field evaluations and assessments. Minimum Qualifications BS/BA with 2 years of relevant experience (or equivalent). Preferred Qualifications BS preferred in Urban Planning, Geography, Environmental Sciences, or related fields. 2+ years of experience with state and local transportation agencies and their environmental policies and practices. Demonstrated technical writing and communication skills. Knowledge and experience with environmental review and compliance requirements in Arizona. Familiarity with environmental disciplines relevant to transportation planning: social/economic considerations, air quality, biological resources, traffic noise, Clean Water Act permitting, Section 4(f). Demonstrated experience in Geographic Information Systems. Compensation & Benefits Salary: $65,000 to $95,000 per year, commensurate with education, experience, and location.
