Custodian, On-CallThe Custodian performs general maintenance, repairs and custodial duties to keep the Project Open Hand facilities (excluding the kitchen) clean and safe.Qualifications Required:1+ years' experience in a janitorial or maintenance position with a strong background in janitorial procedures and an understanding of using cleaning supplies safely and effectivelySchedule flexibility with ability to work occasional nights, weekends and holidaysOral and written comprehension of English to facilitate communicationA valid California Driver's License and a good driving recordQualifications Desired:Bilingual (Spanish/English)Essential Functions and Responsibilities:Daily custodial responsibilities including vacuuming, trash removal, window and surface cleaningAssist in keeping building elevators, stairwells, lobby, etc. clean and free of debris at all timesResponsible for cleaning building restrooms safely and refilling paper products dailyAssist in cleaning break rooms and cleaning out break room refrigeratorAssists with moving of equipment and furnitureAssists facilities co-workers with general maintenance & in-house repair projectsAssists with repairing external and internal damages to equipment and buildingsCoverage availability for day & swing shiftAssist department & Agency in maintaining Agency Recycling programAssists coworkers with shampooing carpets & waxing floors once a monthAs part of the Emergency Response Team assists in drills, training and responding to an emergencyOther duties as assignedSuccess Factors/Job Competencies:Team player: Demonstrates cooperative spirit, respects professional boundaries and is successful at sharing responsibilities with othersSelf-led: Knows and completes responsibilities in assigned timelines, asks for clarifications when neededSensitive to the circumstances and needs of the critically ill and seniors, as well as people with mental health and substance abuse issuesCustomer oriented: Works well with all customers (internal staff and external contacts), promotes a positive image of the agency and works diligently to resolve customer issuesPoised: able to maintain a calm, positive and constructive attitude during interactions with diverse populations, sometimes in challenging situationsEthical: Honest, accountable, maintains confidentialityPhysical Demands and Work Environment:The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
