Thisisanopportunityforanexperiencedestimatorandleadertomakeameaningfulimpact—notonlybyproducingaccurate,competitiveestimates,butbyhelpingshapehowweestimate,price,andpursueworkinthefuture. Thesuccessfulcandidatewillbringstrongconstructionknowledge,soundbusinessjudgment,andapassionfordevelopingpeopleandimprovingprocesses.Youwillworkcloselywithseniormanagement,operations,projectmanagement,businessdevelopment,subcontractors,andsupplierstodevelopestimatesthatpositionthecompanytowintherightworkattherightprice. Wearealsoinvestinginthefutureofestimating.Thisrolewillhelpadvanceouruseofdigitaltakeoff,estimatingtechnology,historicalcostdata,automation,analytics,andpracticalapplicationsofartificialintelligencetomakeourestimatingprocessfaster,moreconsistent,accurate,anddata-driven. WhatYou'llDo LeadEstimating&Preconstruction Leadtheestimatingprocessforindustrialmechanicalandlightcommercialprojectsfromopportunityevaluationthroughbidsubmissionandprojectturnover. Developandreviewdetailedestimatesforprojectsofvaryingsizeandcomplexity. Establishconsistentestimatingstandards,procedures,templates,andquality-controlprocesses. Lead,mentor,anddevelopestimatingpersonnelwhilecreatingacultureofaccountability,collaboration,andcontinuousimprovement. Reviewdrawings,specifications,P&IDs,pipingisometrics,equipmentschedules,biddocuments,andcontractrequirements. Performandoverseedetailedquantitytakeoffsformechanical,piping,equipment,structural,andlightcommercialscopes. Developandreviewlabor,productivity,equipment,material,subcontractor,andindirectcostestimates. Solicit,evaluate,compare,andlevelsubcontractorandsupplierproposals. Identifyscopegaps,exclusions,assumptions,constructabilityissues,andprojectrisksbeforebidsaresubmitted. Supportbid/no-biddecisionsandstrategicpursuitevaluations. BringBusinessJudgmenttoPricing Thispositionplaysanimportantroleindetermininghowwecompeteforwork.TheEstimatingManagermustbeabletobalancemarketcompetitiveness,projectrisk,constructability,andprofitabilitywhendevelopingpricingstrategies. Youwill: Leadestimatereviewsandcommunicatepricingstrategies,assumptions,risks,andopportunitiestoseniormanagement. Applysoundjudgmentwhenevaluatinglaborproductivity,materialpricing,subcontractorproposals,schedulerequirements,andproject-specificrisks. Challengeassumptionswhennecessaryandprovidemeaningfulinsightintohowaprojectshouldbepricedandpursued. Workcloselywithoperationsandprojectmanagementtovalidateconstructionmethods,manpowerrequirements,productivityexpectations,equipmentneeds,andschedules. Helpensurethatestimatesaccuratelyreflecthowprojectswillbebuiltandtherisksassociatedwithdeliveringthem. Leadthetransitionfromestimatingtooperationsfollowingprojectaward. UseTechnologytoImproveEstimating Wearelookingforsomeonewhoisexcitedaboutimprovingtheestimatingprocessthroughtechnology—notsimplyadoptingtechnologyforitsownsake. Youwillhelpevaluateandimplementtoolsthatcanimproveestimatingefficiency,consistency,accuracy,anddecision-making,including: Digitaltakeoffandestimatingplatforms Historicalcostandproductivitydatabases Bid-managementandsubcontractorsolicitationtools Dataanalyticsandbusinessintelligence Workflowautomation AI-assisteddocumentreviewandestimatingapplications Constructionandjob-costsystems EnterpriseAItoolssuchasMicrosoftCopilot,ChatGPT,orcomparableplatforms Potentialapplicationsincludedrawingandspecificationreview,scopeidentification,bid-documentsummarization,takeoffsupport,proposaldevelopment,bidleveling,historicalcostanalysis,productivitybenchmarking,andquality-controlreviews. TheEstimatingManagerwillestablishappropriateprocessestoensuretechnologyandAI-generatedinformationisreviewed,validated,andsupportedbyexperiencedconstructionjudgment. UseDatatoContinuouslyImprove Trackbidresultsandanalyzeestimate-versus-actualprojectperformance. Maintainandimprovehistoricalcost,laborproductivity,andestimatingbenchmarks. Useprojectresultstoimprovefutureestimatesandpricingdecisions. Identifytrendsandopportunitiestoimproveestimatingaccuracyandprofitability. Developrecommendationsforimprovingestimatingprocesses,technology,andorganizationalcapabilities. RequiredExperience&Skills 7–10+yearsofconstructionestimatingexperiencepreferred. ExperienceasaSeniorEstimator,LeadEstimator,ChiefEstimator,EstimatingManager,orsimilarleadershiprole. Strongexperiencewithindustrialmechanicalconstruction,includingprocesspiping,pipefabricationandinstallation,mechanicalequipmentinstallation,equipmentsettingandrigging,andstructuralsupports. Experiencewithlightcommercialconstructionisaplus. Abilitytoreadandinterpretconstructiondrawings,specifications,P&IDs,pipingisometrics,andcontractdocuments. Strongunderstandingoflaborproductivity,crewcomposition,equipmentutilization,materialpricing,subcontractorcosts,andconstructionmeansandmethods. Experiencemanaging,mentoring,anddevelopingestimatingpersonnel. Stronganalytical,organizational,communication,andleadershipskills. AdvancedMicrosoftExcelskills. Experiencewithconstructionestimating,takeoff,andbid-managementsoftware. Abilitytomanagemultipleestimatesandcompetingdeadlines. Willingnesstovisitindustrialandcommercialjobsitesasneeded. TechnologyMindset Specificsoftwareexperienceislessimportantthanyourabilitytounderstandtechnology,learnnewsystemsquickly,andtranslatetechnologyintobetterestimatingprocesses. Experiencewithdigitaltakeoff,BIM,estimatingplatforms,ERP/job-costsystems,schedulingsoftware,dataanalytics,workflowautomation,orAI-assistedapplicationsishighlyvalued.
