The Department of Adult Correction, Division of Community Supervision, is seeking a Judicial Services Coordinator (JSC) to work with members and officials of the judicial system, community agencies, victims, and offenders. The Judicial Services Coordinator will serve as the agency's representative in court, the community, and in maintaining public awareness of the community service program. The JSC is usually located in or near the courthouse, frequently in court, and will associate with judges, lawyers, District Attorneys, Clerk of Court, law enforcement, etc. Work involves significant contact with members and officials of the judicial system, community agencies, victims, offenders, and the general public while serving as the court's representative in the community and maintaining public awareness of the program. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Judicial Services Specialist or Chief Probation and Parole Officer. The JSC is responsible for the intake of all new supervised and unsupervised probation cases and, in specified areas, monitoring unsupervised deferred prosecution cases. The employees will accept, inspect, and process the legal documents of new probation cases. They review court judgments and match offenders’ skills to needs, with consideration given to the offenders’ criminal history, physical condition, age, transportation needs, and availability to perform the work within the designated period of time. Work involves interviewing offenders to obtain information regarding past arrests/convictions, work records, and family social histories to develop treatment and sanction recommendations for court-ordered presentence and pre-parole investigations. Employees must consider the needs of both the offenders and the recipient agencies and, if necessary, will refer offenders to support agencies for assistance to meet special needs. Administrative tasks include, but are not limited to, negotiating agreements, placing offenders with agencies to perform designated community service work, completing required documentation, preparing reports, and maintaining/tracking case files. The employees must work as members of a team in a variety of activities to include court intake, which may require travel within the district to assist as needed. About the Division of Community Supervision (DCS): The Division of Community Supervision (DCS) is responsible for overseeing the supervision of adult offenders on probation, parole, or post-release. The DCS mission is to ensure public safety while helping offenders make positive changes and successfully complete their supervision. DCS collaborates closely with the NC Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission, the court system, as well as other state agencies, and community partners, particularly those addressing mental health, substance use, and re-entry issues faced by our returning citizens. DCS is also responsible for the supervision of offenders who transfer from other states through the Interstate Compact program and has oversight of the Community Service Work Program.

The JSC shall have extensive knowledge of Structured Sentencing and how it applies to Community Supervision, and knowledge of the Community Service Work Program.
The JSC shall exhibit a working knowledge of local and regional community resources to address the placement of monitored offenders to government and nonprofit agencies in the community.
The JSC must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with the Judiciary, offenders, and the general public to ensure thorough and appropriate collection, analysis, and utilization of data to interpret Division guidelines, policies, and procedures.
The JSC shall behave professionally at all times as they hold a highly visible position within the Division of Community Supervision, and their actions will reflect upon the entire Division. The position is frequently in court and will associate with Judges, Attorneys, District Attorneys, Clerk of Court, Law Enforcement, etc., and establish and sustain effective working relationships.
The JSC is responsible for planning their daily work operations, setting priorities, scheduling, and establishing deadlines for the caseload; they must possess exceptional time management and organizational skills, and must be able to work under stressful situations. Experience in this area must be listed within your application or prior job duties.
