Sustainable Investments Associate Investment Manager

Job Description and Duties

Our Sustainable Investments (SI) team is currently seeking an Associate Investment Manager (AIM) to play a central role in advancing CalPERS’ commitment to climate solutions across its private markets portfolio and drive our CalPERS mission.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Support the Investment Director and/or private asset class Investment Manager(s) (IM) in the underwriting process for energy transition focused funds and/or climate solutions co-investments.
• Map the private climate solutions investment landscape across relevant asset classes. Monitor market developments, emerging sectors and evolving manager strategies.
• Contribute to CalPERS climate and performance goals accountability and transparency efforts by supporting the tracking, measurement and reporting of the private markets portfolio’s climate solutions exposure.

In November 2023, CalPERS announced its objective to invest over $100 billion in climate solutions by 2030 under the supervision of the Sustainable Investments (SI) program, along with multiple other sustainability related priorities. Telework Information : This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with up to two days of remote work and three days or more onsite, per week.

Sponsorship: CalPERS does not participate in E-verify for employment authorization purposes. 

This position will run until filled with cutoff dates for review with the first cutoff date June 1, 2026 followed by every 1st and the 15th of the month.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

• Advanced Business or Finance degree
• CFA designation is a strong complement
• Deep private markets experience: including experience sourcing, underwriting and executing transactions in the private markets including fund investments, co-investments and/or direct investments
• Advanced proficiency in financial modeling, DCF analysis, project finance and/or portfolio valuation with a track-record of leading due diligence and investment committee presentations
• Stakeholder management: demonstrated ability to manage relationships with coworkers, advisors, etc. and experience leading and mentoring junior investment professionals

CalPERS Disclosure Requirements
If employed, you may be subject to rules imposed by Personal Trading Regulations and Conflict of Interest Code that apply to CalPERS team members, which require disclosure of certain investment information and use of a designated trading platform for securities transactions, as well as filing a Statement of Economic Interest (Form 700)

Background Investigation
In addition to Live Scan, this position requires additional background screening prior to employment.

Surety Bond
Must be able to qualify for a Surety Bond.
