CGC General Contractors is seeking an experienced Controller to lead and build the Company's accounting and financial operations.

Reporting directly to the President, this individual will have responsibility for the Company's accounting operations, financial reporting, cash management, forecasting, job-cost controls, and development of the accounting team. This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership position with direct involvement in both the day-to-day accounting function and the financial management of the Company.

This is a player-coach role. The successful candidate must be willing and able to personally perform accounting functions, including payroll, accounts receivable, reconciliations, reporting, and other transactional accounting work, while simultaneously developing the people, processes, and systems necessary to build a stronger finance and accounting department. As the department develops, the role is expected to become increasingly focused on financial leadership, analysis, and strategic support to the President.

The successful candidate will inherit an existing accounting team and will have the authority to evaluate current processes, systems, responsibilities, and staffing and build the department necessary to support CGC's continued growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the Company's accounting and finance function and provide high-level financial reporting and analysis directly to the President.
• Remain actively involved in day-to-day accounting operations, particularly during the transition and development of the department.
• Perform and/or oversee payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, billing, reconciliations, general ledger activity, cash management, and other accounting functions as necessary.
• Manage, mentor, and develop the accounting team, currently consisting of AR/AP, Payroll, and Staff Accounting functions.
• Establish a disciplined and timely monthly close process and ensure the accuracy of financial statements and supporting schedules.
• Prepare and maintain cash-flow forecasts, annual budgets, financial projections, and management reporting.
• Provide executive-level analysis of Company performance, trends, risks, and opportunities to the President.
• Partner with project management and operations leadership to improve financial visibility at the project level.
• Oversee job-cost accounting, WIP reporting, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, over/under billings, retainage, committed costs, and project profitability reporting.
• Strengthen billing, accounts receivable, and collection processes and provide clear visibility into outstanding receivables and cash requirements.
• Develop reporting that allows leadership to identify margin changes, cost exposure, billing issues, cash-flow concerns, and other financial risks early.
• Evaluate existing accounting processes and implement scalable procedures, controls, and accountability throughout the department.
• Assess the accounting department's organizational structure and recommend and hire additional personnel as appropriate.
• Serve as the primary financial liaison with the Company's CPA, banking partners, surety/bonding relationships, insurance providers, and other outside financial partners.
• Maintain and improve the Company's use of Sage 100 Contractor, Procore, TimberScan/AvidXchange, payroll and banking systems, Excel, Power BI, and related financial technology.
• Support the President and ownership with financial analysis, planning, and special projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting and/or Finance.
• 8+ years of progressive accounting and/or finance experience with at least 3 years in a leadership or management capacity.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and build an accounting or finance team.
• Strong hands-on accounting capabilities and willingness to personally perform accounting functions as necessary.
• Strong understanding of financial statements, general ledger accounting, cash management, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
• Experience creating meaningful financial and operational reporting for executive leadership.
• Strong systems aptitude and advanced Excel skills.
• CPA or other relevant professional designation preferred but not required.
• Construction accounting experience strongly preferred; significant experience in project-based accounting environments will also be considered.
• Experience with Sage 100 Contractor, Procore, TimberScan/AvidXchange, or similar systems is beneficial but not required.
