Reporting directly to the Director of Counseling and PsychologicalServices, the Associate Director assists in the management ofon-site counseling services emphasizing wellness and preventivemental health care for students, directly supervises a team of fivestaff clinicians, provides direct clinical service, overseesalcohol and other drug services offered by the department, and actswith the authority of the director in her absence. The AssociateDirector develops and implements policies to assure timely andquality care in compliance with federal and state laws, nationalstandards of care and professional legal/ethical guidelines. Thisposition interprets relevant laws and directives (HIPAA, FERPA,Jeanne Clery Act, Title IX) and applies interpretation to casemanagement practices.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Manage delivery of mental health services and educational outreachprograms that foster the safety and well-being of the campuscommunity for a team of five staff clinicians.
- Develop and monitor yearly unit goals and objectives.
- Lead in the evaluation and assessment of service provision andprograms for the unit and develop new programs to improve andexpand services to respond to current and future needs of theUniversity community.
- Provide direct supervision and management of a cohort of thecounseling center staff. Recruit, hire, train, schedule/assign,evaluate and recommend reappointments, and oversee promotions anddisciplinary actions for assigned department staff. Ensurecompliance with continuing education requirements, and professionaldevelopment opportunities for staff.
- Oversee the implementation of counseling center policies and staffperformance standards as well as updating the department’s Policiesand Procedures Manual.
- Oversee the provision of routine and emergency individualpsychological consultation, assessment, brief psychotherapy, crisisintervention, and appropriate referrals, by assigned staff.Supervises the assessment and diagnoses of specific psychologicalconditions and disorders by assigned staff and contracted serviceproviders. Administratively oversees alcohol and other drug useservices and carries an active caseload.
- Manage the implementation of emergency management procedures forresponding to mental health and other emergencies at theUniversity.
- Coordinate care and/or provide trauma debriefing services in theaftermath of campus emergencies.
- Maintain professional relationships with mental health agenciesand clinicians in the community to establish an off-campus referralbase for students, faculty, and staff requiring specialized orlong-term treatment.
- Supervise the performance of emergency procedures for theimmediate management of mental health emergencies, both in theoffice during regular business hours and on a rotating on-callbasis after normal business hours.
REQUIRED :
- Master's in Clinical, Counseling, or School Psychology or arelevant field
- Minimum four years of full-time professional work experience in auniversity counseling center or related setting.
- Current valid license as a psychologist, social worker orcounselor in the State of New Jersey .
- LCSW or LPC with commensurate experience.
- Ability to work as needed on an on-call basis after normalbusiness hours.
- Demonstrated competence in time limited individual and groupcounseling with diverse populations
- Proven ability and commitment to successfully working with diverseand underrepresented groups
- Well-developed knowledge base and ability to assess/intervene withdevelopmental concerns, especially those of young adults
- Strong ability to build collegial relationships within theUniversity and surrounding community
