Support safe, high-quality, and ethical medical care across the fleet Serve as a shoreside point of contact for assigned vessels on medical operational matters Coordinate shipboard medical teams with shoreside departments Support fleet medical operations, resource coordination, medical supplies and equipment escalation, staffing coverage, and continuity of care Track medical cases and follow-ups through resolution Coordinate specialist care, ambulance staging, port medical facilities, and care-team handovers Participate in a rotating 24/7 emergency medical response helpline Provide telephonic and telemedicine clinical decision support to shipboard physicians and nurses Advise on emergency escalations, medical diversions, MEDEVACs, and shoreside referrals Document calls, clinical advice, and decisions in the case-management system Review surgical and procedural requests for clinical appropriateness, safety, provider capability, and protocol alignment Review crew medical disembarkation requests and fitness-to-work or fitness-to-remain-onboard assessments Conduct clinical case reviews and quality assurance of shipboard doctors' performance Provide feedback, coaching, competency-assessment, credentialing, onboarding, and professional-development support Participate in medical ethics, professional-conduct, and clinical-complaint investigations with HR Participate in peer review committees Travel to vessels for medical audits, training, coaching, and operational support Produce audit reports and follow corrective actions to closure Support infectious-disease consultation, vaccination programs, outbreak preparedness, and outbreak response Review crew pre-employment and re-employment physicals Support crew wellness, crew medical, and risk-management programs Liaise with health authorities and government officials as needed Assist with recruitment of shipboard doctors and nurses Assess and establish relationships with medical facilities in relevant ports Contribute to clinical protocols, policies, guidelines, incident reviews, and continuous-improvement initiatives Requirements Medical degree (MD, DO, MBBS, or international equivalent) from an accredited institution Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in at least one recognized jurisdiction Completion of postgraduate/residency training 5 years of post-training independent clinical practice in emergency medicine, internal/family medicine, critical care, general practice, or a related acute-care field Sound clinical judgment across a broad range of acute and general presentations Strong written and verbal communication in English Ability and willingness to participate in a rotating 24/7 on-call schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays Ability and willingness to travel internationally and spend time onboard vessels at sea Valid passport and eligibility to obtain required visas, seafarer documentation, and medical/vaccination clearances Preferred: Board certification/eligibility in emergency medicine, internal medicine, family medicine, or a related specialty Preferred: Experience in maritime, cruise, offshore, expedition, military, aviation, or other remote/austere-medicine settings Preferred: Familiarity with telemedicine and remote clinical decision support Preferred: Knowledge of maritime medical standards and seafarer fitness frameworks Preferred: Exposure to clinical governance, quality assurance, audit, or medical administration Preferred: Additional language skills Clinical decision-making under pressure Communication and collaboration with clinicians, operations staff, HR, and external partners Integrity, ethics, confidentiality, and impartiality Accurate and timely record-keeping and case tracking Adaptability to shifting priorities, time zones, and an around-the-clock operational environment Coaching mindset Reliable phone and internet connectivity and a suitable environment for confidential clinical discussions during on-call periods Ability to board and move about vessels, including stairs, tenders, and gangways, and tolerate air and sea travel Core Competencies Demonstrates extensive clinical expertise in emergency medicine and acute care, with strong capabilities in telemedicine and clinical decision support.
