2026-27 Nutrition & Wellness Worker II - Desert Shadows ES Starting Date: Aug 4, 2026 Job Description Nutrition & Wellness Worker II Location: Desert Shadows Elementary School Schedule: 9 months, 6.2 hours/day, 7:30am - 2:12pm Grade: 14, $15.94/hour This position reports to the Central Kitchen Manager. Essential Functions Monitors, cleans and maintains all areas of the storage, food preparation and serving areas of the kitchen (e.g., utensils, equipment, refrigerators) to uphold safe and sanitary conditions and comply with health requirements. Estimates food preparation amounts to meet projected meal requirements and minimize waste. Evaluates prepared food for flavor, appearance, and temperature to ensure items meet student and staff expectations. Inspects food and supply deliveries to verify quantity, quality, and specifications and comply with mandated health standards. Stocks, inventories, and orders food and supplies to maintain adequate inventory levels for projected menus. Manages assigned site operations to provide safe and efficient food services in compliance with mandated nutritional menu requirements and health standards. Supervises, trains, and evaluates N&W Substitutes with food preparation, serving, and cleaning to maintain safety and compliance. Attends department meetings, in‑service trainings, workshops, etc., to convey and gather necessary information. Reconciles transactions (e.g., meal counts, monies collected) to maintain accurate account balances in accordance with policies and procedures. Maintains a variety of manual and/or electronic files and records (e.g., production reports, temperature logs, time sheets) to provide up‑to‑date information and historical reference in line with administrative guidelines and legal requirements. Uses web‑based programs and other software related to the Nutrition & Wellness Department to support daily operations. Responds to inquiries from students, staff, and the public to provide information and/or direction regarding food items and policies. Screens free/reduced meal applications to ensure accuracy before submitting student applications to the Nutrition & Wellness Department. Other Functions Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Responsibility Work under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; direct other persons within a small work unit; routinely utilize resources from other work units required to perform job functions. Work Environment The role requires significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, and fine finger dexterity. The job involves 10% sitting, 60% walking, and 30% standing. It is performed under temperature extremes and conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness. Applicants must be able to lift 50 pounds. Experience Job‑related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required. Education High school diploma or equivalent. Equivalency Required Testing and Certificates ServSafe Certificate. Continuing Education/Training Maintain relevant certificates. Clearances Criminal Background Clearance. Valid Arizona DPS Level I IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
