Manager Trainee

Job Summary Under general supervision, this role is responsible for learning the management of a small driver count and/or non‑traditional shifts, ensuring safe and timely movement of freight, load assignment, and best‑in‑class customer service. The manager trainee will be trained to ensure compliance with DOT regulations, maintain driver compliance, and collaborate with internal and external contacts to accurately plan, route, monitor, and deliver freight and loads. Key Responsibilities Build and maintain positive professional relationships with drivers and reliable outside carriers to ensure seamless carrier set‑up, minimize turnover, and maximize productivity. Fill in for absent or unavailable personnel and assist with special projects related to optimizing fleet operations and achieving profitability. Utilize personnel management, including training and orientation of drivers and employees, and assist with internal and third‑party systems. Maximize fleet operational efficiency and profitability, recommend continuous improvements, measure key performance indicators, and create, maintain, and present customer‑specific reporting and financial analysis. Manage inventory, assets, and customer pools to balance equipment in the market and assign drivers accordingly. Perform administrative duties such as payroll, Net‑Revenue budgeting, driver counseling, accident reviews, documentation, pay issue resolution, P&L analysis, invoicing, and operational or financial reporting. Maintain the yard: inspect equipment, replace parts, coordinate with maintenance, and schedule preventive maintenance. Resolve service, routing, mechanical, and accessorial pay issues with drivers, customers, and company personnel as they arise. Maintain the company’s safety culture through daily safety messages, monthly briefings, quarterly training, annual reviews, and enforcement of DOT and company policies. Assign loads, plan routes, monitor freight movement, and manage exceptions, driver ETA adjustments, and environmental factors to meet customer requirements. Qualifications Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Transportation/Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related field; or High School Diploma/GED with at least one year of experience in management, transportation/logistics, business administration, or account management; or equivalent military experience. Willingness to travel to account, customer, and company event locations when applicable. Availability to work across multiple shifts, including nights and weekends. Willingness to relocate regionally based on account assignment. Preferred: Experience managing a team. Ability to anticipate, recognize, and address conflicts at individual, group, or situational levels. Strong analytical and decision‑making skills based on informed judgment. Adaptability to changing environments. Capacity to establish and maintain healthy relationships with clients, vendors, and peers. Commitment to meeting or exceeding team or driver expectations and providing excellent service. Effective communication across various mediums. Problem‑solving skills for organizational or process issues. Compensation The starting salary range for this role is $50,700–$76,000. Compensation may include an annual bonus and incentives based on profitability or volumes, subject to the company’s bonus and incentive plans.
