Substation Technician

About the Role Our client is looking for a skilled and safety-conscious Substation Technician to join their operations in Welkom . This hands-on role is vital for the maintenance, testing, and repair of electrical substation equipment, ensuring the reliable flow of power from generation to distribution points within the energy sector . You will work with high-voltage equipment, performing routine inspections and complex diagnostics to prevent outages and ensure the integrity of the network. Key Responsibilities Perform routine maintenance, testing , and repair of substation equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, and relays. Conduct diagnostic testing on high-voltage equipment using specialized test instruments. Respond to emergency calls for troubleshooting and repair of substation faults. Assist in the installation and commissioning of new substation equipment. Read and interpret schematic diagrams , blueprints, and technical manuals. Adhere strictly to all safety procedures and protocols for working in a substation environment. Requirements National Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current) or equivalent qualification. Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Substation Technician or in a similar role. Proficiency in operating and interpreting test equipment for high-voltage apparatus. Understanding of substation construction , maintenance, and safety procedures. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, often under pressure.
