A day in this role

Your shift starts by reviewing planned maintenance for critical tools. You’ll pull a complex mold from storage, use an overhead crane to stage it safely, and perform a full inspection—disassembling, cleaning, and reassembling intricate components. Mid-morning, you’ll collaborate with process and setup technicians to verify an installation, troubleshoot a flash issue by distinguishing process vs. tooling vs. machine causes, and fabricate a replacement core insert on the mill and lathe. In the afternoon, you’ll update spare-part inventory, document work performed, and coordinate an external grind-and-polish service—closing the day with a clean bench and a safe, organized repair area.

What you’ll do

• Keep injection molds in peak condition: scheduled checks, lubrication, repair, and modifications.
• Diagnose mold-related problems, identify wear/damage, and differentiate between process, mold, and machine issues.
• Repair and/or fabricate cores, cavities, and other injection mold components using mills, lathes, drill presses, and grinders.
• Partner with process and setup technicians to validate correct mold installation and operation.
• Execute preventive maintenance: planned inspections with full teardown, precision cleaning, and reassembly of complex tooling.
• Manage spare mold tooling inventory and coordinate external services as needed.
• Verify dimensional conformance to prints using reliable measurement methods; read and interpret manuals and technical documents.
• Assemble special tools and fixtures and support internal tooling initiatives.
• Assist production as a setup mechanic or machine operator/grinder when required.
• Maintain reports/files, prepare documentation, and order supplies and parts.
• Operate shop equipment safely, including overhead cranes; work within established equipment parameters.
• Report unsafe conditions/practices to the Production Manager; uphold safety standards in repair and storage areas.
• Meet agreed performance goals; keep your work area clean; follow all safety policies and procedures.
• Communicate professionally in a team environment; maintain regular, reliable attendance; perform other duties as assigned.

What you bring

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Technical school degree and/or 2–3 years equivalent technical experience.
• At least 5 years of hands-on mold maintenance and modification experience.
• Journeyman Tool & Die certificate (required).
• Strong knowledge of injection molding processes and equipment; familiarity with PVC and/or CPVC material characteristics.
• Proficiency in English; strong verbal/written communication. Bilingual Spanish is a plus.
• Excellent mechanical and electrical aptitude; quick to learn and adapt; creative problem solver.
• Vendor negotiation ability; high math aptitude; strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Capable of independent work and effective teamwork.
• Skilled with drill press, lathes, mills, grinders, and general shop equipment.
• Ability to interpret new information and anticipate implications for current and future decision-making.

Physical and mental demands

• Stand with frequent movement for up to 12 hours.
• Frequently push, pull, and/or lift up to 100 lbs.
• Frequent bending and overhead reach with full arm extension.
• Frequent walking; occasional climbing.
• Good bilateral manual dexterity for removing, packing, and measuring parts.
• Above-average math for measuring, estimating, checking dimensions, and process calculations.
