The Query Processing team maintains the massive parallel execution engine that powers Redshift. Key Responsibilities Build systems that benefit Redshift clusters worldwide. Define new features and architecture, owning the overall product vision. Distill complex and ambiguous requirements into meaningful projects that deliver customer value. Own end‑to‑end deliverables – design, development, deployment, monitoring, and operations. Lead engineers on substantial projects and mentor, hire, and cultivate a high‑performance team. Design and code solutions to drive software architecture efficiencies, implementing metrics, automations, and defect root‑cause analysis. Work cross‑functionally and communicate with internal and external stakeholders. Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and assist business decisions with technical input. Operate in a startup‑like environment focusing on priority work. About the Team The Query Execution Engine team develops a high‑scalability, high‑performance execution engine for Amazon Redshift. Team members bring expertise in query optimization, distributed systems, compilers, and data‑lake technologies. Basic Qualifications 5+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience. 5+ years of programming in at least one modern language (C++, Java, or Rust). Experience leading design or architecture of large, scalable systems. Mentorship, tech‑lead or engineering team leadership experience. Experience with distributed computing and enterprise‑wide systems. Preferred Qualifications 5+ years of full software development life cycle experience. Master’s degree in computer science or equivalent. Strong coding skills with emphasis on logical reasoning, data structures, algorithms, and problem solving. Experience with distributed (multi‑tiered) systems architecture. Experience performing live system and core analysis using GDB.
