Details Med/Surg Tele unit in a hospital setting caring for adult patients with diagnoses including dementia, diabetes, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, and hip fracture Target patient ratio of 1:5-6 Includes isolation care for COVID patients and multi-level care with stepdown patients cared for by stepdown staff Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (6:45pm-7:15am) 36 or 48 hour weekly options available 13-26 week contract lengths accepted Floating required within/near the facility Weekend requirement of 12-16 shifts per contract Uses Epic for documentation, Pyxis for medication administration, and SBAR for communication Scheduling based on unit needs Requirements Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, pending license accepted at submission BLS certification required Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required (hardstop requirement) Experience with Med/Surg and telemetry remote monitoring required Skilled in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias Proficient in IV insulin protocols and insulin drip titration Experience with colostomy care, feeding tube management, and pre/post hemodialysis management Blood product administration and central/peripheral line care experience required Skilled in phlebotomy, PICC line management, and starting IVs Experience with heparin protocols and PCA Chest tube management (Emerson/Pleuravac) experience required Non-invasive airway management skills including CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and nasal cannula Oral suctioning and oxygen delivery device experience (face masks, portable tanks) Isolation precautions/PPE experience required Wound care/wound vac experience required Epic charting experience preferred Previous charge nurse experience preferred Additional Information Provide comprehensive medical-surgical and telemetry nursing care including rapid response team utilization May be assigned to Storm Team/Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events or mass casualty situations; reassignment to other units may occur during such events Unit orientation is 24 hours with hospital orientation occurring during the first week, requiring daily class attendance Must pass EKG testing prior to start Navy/white scrub color requirement Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays No RTO permitted during the first week of assignment; up to 7 days RTO auto-approved thereafter (excluding holidays) First-time travelers are welcome to apply Former Novant Health/New Hanover PERM, PRN, or EP employees must wait 12 months before applying, with facility approval required Travel pairs are allowed if assigned to different units Local candidates accepted at a reduced rate within 50 miles of the facility American Traveler Job ID P-746888.
