Job Title: Lead Residential Estimator/Purchasing

About the Role

Skycrest Homes is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Residential Estimator/Purchaser to support our custom homebuilding and remodeling projects. This role is critical in helping clients understand project costs early in the process—whether they are building from the ground up or remodeling an existing home.

The ideal candidate can review architectural plans to create accurate preliminary budgets, as well as walk through existing homes to develop budgets for additions, renovations, or finished basements. Bonus if you have the ability to create 3D renderings or visual concepts to support client understanding and design development.

Key Responsibilities

• Review architectural drawings and specifications to develop accurate preliminary budgets for custom homes.
• Conduct on-site assessments of existing homes to scope out remodeling, additions, or basement projects and create detailed cost estimates.
• Work closely with the design and project management teams to ensure estimates align with project scope, client goals, and build feasibility.
• Source and verify pricing from subcontractors and suppliers for labor and materials.
• Develop clear, itemized estimates that reflect realistic timelines and cost expectations for clients.
• Update and refine estimates based on design iterations, selections, or scope changes.
• Maintain estimating templates and cost databases to improve efficiency and consistency over time.
• Maintain & develop a list of strong trades and on-board new trades to ensure consistent quality and performance.
• Optional/Preferred: Create basic 3D renderings or visual representations to help clients visualize designs and options.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in residential estimating, ideally with a custom homebuilder or remodeling firm.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting architectural and engineering drawings.
• Strong knowledge of residential construction methods, materials, and costs.
• Ability to conduct site visits and accurately assess remodeling or addition scope.
• Highly organized and detail-oriented with strong analytical and math skills.
• Proficient in estimating software, Excel, and general construction tech platforms.
• Excellent communication skills and a client-focused mindset.

Preferred Skills (Not Required)

• BuilderTrend or other project management software
• Background in design-build environments or value engineering.
• Familiarity with permit and zoning considerations for residential remodeling.
