Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, Neurocritical Care $8000 Bonus

JOB SUMMARY
This position is part of the acute care pharmacy department and functions as the pharmacy expert on the interdisciplinary Neurocritical Care team. The Neurocritical Care Specialist provides clinical support for critically ill patients with neurologic and neurosurgical conditions in the Neuro ICU and contributes to consultative services for complex pharmacotherapy management, including acute ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, subarachnoid hemorrhage, status epilepticus, traumatic brain injury, neuromonitoring‑related therapies, sedation and analgesia, anticoagulation reversal, and neuroprotective strategies. The specialist serves as a departmental leader in neurocritical care through executing initiatives, supporting quality improvement efforts, and educating pharmacy colleagues, providers, patients, and learners. Day‑to‑day activities include rounding with the multidisciplinary Neuro ICU team, optimizing medication therapy, participating in emergency response activities as appropriate, and precepting pharmacy residents and/or students. Non‑direct patient care activities may include medication‑use evaluations, cost‑savings initiatives, committee involvement, and participation in departmental projects, research, and practice advancement efforts related to neurocritical care and acute care pharmacy services.BENEFITS

Required Education Both PGY1 and PGY2 from an ASHP‑accredited residency program PGY1 with 5 years of progressive clinical practice experience Bachelor’s Degree of Science or PharmD from an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy, or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy Experience 5 years progressive clinical practice experience within specialty with PGY1 from an ASHP‑accredited residency program or 8 years progressive clinical practice experience within specialty Computer skills, data entry experience English (speaking, reading, writing). Good general health and stress coping ability. Moderate physical effort: prolonged standing/walking, occasional lifting/carrying (up to 25 lbs.), reaching, bending, crouching, etc. Licenses and Certifications- BLS) BASIC LIFE SUPPORT certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) upon hire
- TSBP) REG PHARMACY TECNICIAN eligible for licensure by Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) upon hire
- TSBP) REG PHARMACY TECNICIAN – Texas license with TSBP within 30 days of date of hire
- ACLS) ADV CARDIAC LIFE SUPPORT course accredited by the American Heat Association (AHA), or American Red Cross (ARC) required for only inpatient positions prior to or within 6 months of employment upon hire
JOB DUTIES
Performs job responsibilities in accordance with organizational and departmental policies and procedures, performance improvement objectives and environmental/infection control standards. Develops/implements process to meet/comply with JCAHO and regulatory requirements. Coordinates staff training, competencies, certification and continued education specific to specialty. Assists clinical staff pharmacists with therapeutic monitoring, patient assessments, interpretation of lab values, TPN assessment and pharmacokinetic calculations. Identifies opportunities for process improvements, develops and implements policy and procedures for prompt, safe and efficient patient care. Actively promotes pharmacy. Coordinates and participates in multidisciplinary in‑services/meetings, publishes articles (i.e. staff newsletter), individualized drug information, rounds, consults, etc. Maintains high visibility/availability through participation in in‑services, meetings and daily activities. Participates in the education/experiential training of pharmacy students and pharmacy residents. Actively manages P&T initiatives through monitoring of documented interventions. Verifies data, develops measures and reports outcomes (Performance Improvement). Supports cost savings initiatives. Has active role in assessment and selection of cost‑effective pharmaceuticals. Reviews formulary addition request and develops monographs for presentation. Manages the formulary system and procedures for acquisition of non‑formulary product. Consistently works and problem solves independently and effectively. Takes charge when necessary and is looked to for direction. Makes the right decisions and uses good judgment. Cross‑trained and multifunctional maintaining competency in multiple areas. Mentors clinical staff pharmacists and supportive personnel. Delegates appropriate/reasonable tasks and evaluates performance. Represents Pharmacy Department at P&T Committee and Service Line Meetings. Performs computer order entry in an accurate, thorough and timely manner. Reviews/updates medication profiles (therapies, allergies, height, weight, etc.) and is cognizant of patient charges. Reviews medication orders for therapeutic appropriateness, duplications, interactions, overall effectiveness and safety. Seeks clarification if necessary and documents interventions (i.e., ADRs). Actively enhances personal growth and development by participating in educational programs, literature searches, in‑services and meetings. Actively participates in new employee orientation and training and evaluations. Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions: a) Directly interacting with or caring for patients; b) Directly interacting with or caring for human‑subject research participants; c) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records); or d) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting human‑subject research records. Takes ownership in solving problems effectively, efficiently and to the satisfaction of the patient Presents constructive feedback regarding system or process failures and participates in resolution in a proactive and positive manner. Maintains patient confidentiality in accordance with University Medical Center policy. Consistently maintains control of feelings, emotions and body language. Demonstrates through verbal and non‑verbal communications openness to change or new ideas. Willingly learns and adapts to changes in work environment and new work methods as introduced. Demonstrates flexibility to fluctuating workload and effectively prioritizes assignments. Exhibits a positive attitude in support of the hospital and management, including decisions made by administration and/or management. Treats hospital resources and property with respect and in a manner that reflects awareness of financial responsibility. Adheres to all policies and procedures related to safety, infection control, and corporate compliance. Including personal demeanor, appearance, and hygiene that are appropriate for the work environment. Responds to all reasonable requests in an appropriate and timely manner and communicates in a concise and positive manner. Supports teamwork and cooperation with co‑workers in daily activities.
